In Remembrance Laura Marshall

OurBeloved,Laura

Laura began her career at Foundation Title in 2014. I remember the day she was introduced to the employees. The Operations Manager position was a relatively new position for Foundation and the employees weren’t sure what to expect. Chris introduced Laura to the group. Laura (of course dressed to the 9s) stood up, smiled, and gave a short bio about her background and family. The fact she had been in the title industry for several years gave her instant credibility with the group, but the way she connected with each person created a deep level of respect and appreciation

At the time, we had offices in Middle Tennessee, Clarksville, Lexington, and Chattanooga. Laura made sure to interact with every office on a regular basis and they all loved her. To this day, there are still employees at each of those locations that talk about Laura. She always found a way to connect with every employee in the most remarkable way.

In 2015, she hired a lady (who is still with the company), and the employee recently shared a story with me This employee said she had not been working at Foundation too long when she made a mistake on a file. She was terrified she would lose her job Laura talked with her about what happened, why it happened, and what we should do in the future so it wouldn’t happen again. The employee said she has always remembered the kindness, compassion, and encouragement Laura showed to her. As she told me this story, she just smiled and said, “Laura even brought me cookies because she knew I was upset about the mistake.”...

YouareMissed!

...Laura connected with another employee who had a daughter named “Ashley”. They would have frequent conversations about “your Ashley” and “my Ashley”. Both Ashleys were about the same age and Laura and this employee shared so many “Ashley” stories. The employee’s daughter, Ashley, later also worked at Foundation and Laura often talked about how she related to her because she had children the same age. Tragically, the daughter of the employee was killed in a car accident in 2015 In honor of the employee killed in the car accident, Laura and Chris Cantrell created an award at Foundation called the Spirit of Foundation. This award is still give out every year.

The overwhelming message I hear others say about Laura is she always showed so much kindness and empathy, but she was no push over either She would sure set you straight when the need arose…. but of course, in a respectful, professional way She made sure to let everyone know they were valued and appreciated She was constantly sending small tokens of appreciation to the employees and worked to plan fun events and/or outings. She made sure we worked hard and played hard . She would walk through the hallways at offices singing and the staff begging her to stop…. she would just laugh and get louder.

Month end is a stressful time in the title industry, and one month-end she sent Dammit Dolls to the employees as a joke to help deal with the stress She would leave notes of encouragement on employee’s desks and always had a contagious laugh and smile. Employees said you never knew when she would pop in at your office, but they always welcomed her visits. She has left a lasting impression on so many employees, past and present, and on Foundation Title. We love and miss you sweet Laura!!!!

"So, the time she left the company, it was pretty busy and noisy at work. All of a sudden I hear "Jeremiah was a bullfrog, was a good friend of mine!" Thinking to myself, well Laura is not here, but man does that sound just like her! So I got up to investigate who was singing and sure enough. It was Laura! It was so good to see her smiling face for a visit. "

She loved to sing!

Laura was awarded the “When Pigs Fly Award” This award is given to the employee(s) that makes things happen, against all odd. Those that will not take no for an answer. If Laura heard the word no, she was determined to make it a yes.

...I had not been employed by Foundation long and I was having a really bad day. I wanted to scream, and I talked to Laura. As always, she listened to me cry and bitch about all the little things us ladies have to bitch about. The next day she had shipped me a "Damnit Doll". For those who do not know what that is, well, it is a stuffed doll that has "Damnit!" written on it. Of course, I called her and said, "What in hell am I supposed to do with this? How is this supposed to help me not be so frustrated!?" She said, "Shut up and listen to me, now take the doll and hit your desk as hard as you an and scream DAMNIT, DAMNIT!" Guess what? As always, she was right--it worked!

I still have that doll. I still hit my desk, door, or whatever I am next to and SCREAM those words...and every time, I hear Laura in my head just cracking up at me, and every time it makes me smile and I always get in a better mood.

I wish I had been able to work longer with Laura, but that was not in God's plan. She will always be in my heart, and I will never forget how she helped me when I first came on board with Foundation. Laura was an amazing lady.

"I have good memories of Laura. There are no words to express how much she has meant to me over the years. I miss her so much. I have a couple of pictures that I would like to share. One is when Laura presented me with the Spirit of Foundation award back in 2018. That meant a lot to me... "

"It's still hard to comprehend that Laura isn't here on earth with us. She was such a force to me When Chris brought her to Foundation, it was one of the first concrete feelings from my perspective that Foundation was a little company that will do great things. We were in the KW meeting room in Burton Hills. I'm not able to recall a specific story, but here are my reflections:

Laura was a force! She was a problem solver From the moment she started at Foundation, she worked through our growth and changes with a smile on her face and one could tell she truly enjoyed what she was doing. It needs to be told that anyone who worked with her came away a better person She was a compassionate human. She had a radar on her and knew what was needed to turn a mood around. She could calm you down, put a stop to any anxiety and was always inclusive and made a person feel important and useful She cared about every employee. For me personally, as one of very few remote employees at the time, she was with us. She made sure she included me and in turn I became a stronger piece of Foundation due to that inclusion She runs a bit parallel to a Mary Poppins for title to me. "In every job that must be done there is an element of fun! You find that fun and snap the job's a game!" She brought that to the table."

"She totally amazed me!"

A few years ago, Chris hosted an eclipse watch party at his house. I was sitting around the pool and looked up and there was Laura, sitting in a chair, actually stretched out in the chair looking up at the sky, her beautiful long hair hanging down the back of the chair. At that moment I wondered what she was thinking. Then I thought to myself, that lady sitting right there in front of me, I admired her so much, as did everyone sitting around her. I wanted to look at the world the way she did. I wanted to handle my job and my life the way she did. She was always so well put together, did not matter how hectic something was she always handled it with such grace and ease, I was in total amazement of her. She was respected by everyone around her. She had proven herself in every aspect of her job and how she ran her life and the office. I thought to myself at that very moment, that is how I want to be, exactly like Laura. That moment of watching her has been forever scanned into my head. I can close my eyes and still see her. She totally amazed me...

I REMEMBER LAURA COULD NOT SING AT ALL! LOL BUT SHE JUST NEW SHE WAS GOING TO BE A STAR!

When she sang a country song it was sooo funny because you just knew she could not sing, but she got an E for effort, indeed...

THIS IS WHAT I REMEMBER MOST ABOUT LAURA.

She was a sharp woman, well-dressed and always stunning when she came into the office. She cared about people and always brought in a sweet treat to make you smile, especially at month-end. Her warm spirit will be truly missed.
