Polo hosts 54th Town & Country Days

Polo is welcoming guests and residents this weekend to its 54th annual Town & Country Days.

The four-day festival started Wednesday evening with Swimming Pool Games with a fireworks display scheduled for Thursday evening on the high school football field.

“Down on the Farm” is the theme of the festival which will be held through Sunday, June 16.

Great American Shows is once again providing carnival rides daily through Sunday afternoon.

Kids Day is Friday from 12 to 5 p.m.

Armbands for unlimited carnival rides until 5 p.m. will go on sale at noon for $20 apiece.

Besides the carnival, a Kids Fun Fair, open until 3 p.m. offers face-painting, games, and prizes, along with a petting zoo from 1 to 3 p.m.

Spaghetti-eating and Jell-O-eating contests and an Oreo-stacking contest will take place in the festival tent starting at 2 p.m.

The Polo Historical Society will hold an open house on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the history museum across from the Polo Post Office and at the Aplington House just up the street.

Betty Obendorf and Kathy Pasch will sign copies of their recently published Civil War history book “The Gallant 15th of Illinois.”

Alumni Night in the beer garden on Friday night at 5 p.m. offers an opportunity to renew acquaintances and listen to the music of Route 38.

Crossroads Community Church will serve breakfast on Saturday from 7 to 10:30 a.m., and the Polo Car Show & Swap Meet will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration for a volleyball tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on the PCHS football field with the games starting at 9 a.m.

Youngsters can keep cool at the Kids Water Fights on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at the Polo Fire Station.

Other Saturday events include a bags

tournament, a talent show, Twilight Bingo and music by Prowler and RIPT at the beer garden.

The Father’s Day Grand Parade will step off at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival will wrap up with a free family concert by Lyle Grobe and the Rhythm Ramblers on Sunday afternoon.

The 50/50 drawing will take place at 2 p.m. in the festival tent.

Annual Polo Car Show planned on June 15 The Gateway to the Pines Car Club will hold its annual Polo Car Show in conjunction with Polo Town & Country Days on Saturday, June 15 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

The show is open to cars, trucks, and motorcycles at Crossroads Community Church, 205 N. Jefferson Ave..

The cost is $15 for those who register

on the day of the show.

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 registered.

First and second place trophies will be given in all classes, as voted by participants.

Six special trophies will be awarded for Best in Show for Engine, Paint, Interior, GM, Ford, and Mopar.

LOCAL ARREST

Polo man arrested for possession of cannabis A Polo man was arrested June 7 after Polo Police executed a search warrant at 402 W. Colden St. Mark A. Ballotti, 37, was taken into custody on charges of unlawful possession of cannabis, more than 2,000 grams and less than 5,000 grams, a Class 2 felony.

According to a press release fro Police Cheif Jon Mandrell, during the search at 9 a.m., officers found 2,903 grams of cannabis inside the residence.

Ballotti was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

Agriculture in the Classroom is a program to help students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society.

Students learn that thousands of farm products are in the world around them—on their plate, in the clothes they wear, in the medicine that makes them well, and in earth-friendly fuels and plastics.

Ag in the Classroom is offered through the University of Illinois Extension in partnership with Ogle County Farm Bureau, Carroll County Farm Bureau, Ogle County Soil & Water, and Carroll County Soil & Water.

Fourth grade students at Centennial Elementary School in Polo discovered the importance of GPS to farmers through an Ag in the Classroom program.

During the program students learned fun facts about the satellites used by GPS receivers.

“There are at least 24 satellites orbiting the Earth at one time. The satellites, powered by solar, weigh about 2000 pounds and are 17 feet across,” said University of Illinois Extension Ogle County, Melinda Charbonneau, Ag in the Classroom Program Coordinator.

Some uses of GPS in agriculture include: field mapping, soil sampling, crop scouting, tractor guidance and variable rate applications.

“GPS allows farmers to have tractors with auto-steer. This helps so there is not overlapping of seeds, chemicals, fertilizers, etc…,” Charbonneau said. “GPS allows farmers to plant more seeds in richer soil and fewer seeds in poorer soils. It is also used when applying fertilizer.

Instead of the whole field receiving the same amount of fertilizer, the amount of application is based on

The Polo Historical Society will hold an open house on Saturday, June 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Polo History Museum and at Aplington House.

Betty Obendorf and Kathy Pasch will be there to sign copies of “The Gallant 15th of Illinois,” the book they co-authored. and air conditioning to go along with what is happening outside.

It is even affecting our cement block building on the outside.

Bob keeps an eye on the thermostats in the museum and he is now scraping and painting some of the cement block building on the outside due to moisture of our strange weather.

Last week while Bob was scraping and painting on the outside, I was giving a tour on the inside to Andy Mills and her mother.

Andy was amazed at all the changes since we had been given the building by the Tri-County Press a number of years ago.

No more big machines and presses

that Andy was used to seeing as we wandered around the museum.

She was impressed with what we have done in Polo. Then we also toured Aplington House and I showed her what all we had done recently.

The new landscaping looks lovely and with all the rain everything is doing great.

Andy did not realize that Aplington House is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

She was really amazed when I told her we had nine places on the register in Polo.

It was nice to be able to show Andy and her mother around what used to be the Tri-County Press building where Andy used to be in and out.

Some day they would like to see the Buffalo Grove Lime Kiln but that will have to be another day.

We will be having open house on Saturday, June 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum across from the Polo Post Office and at Aplington House also.

This will be during Polo Town and Country Days. Kathy Pasch will be there and we will sign books for anyone who is interested.

We have a new display case at the museum and we will be placing some of the 15th Regiment’s records in for display.

Mike and Paula have it all cleaned up and ready to go so we need to get started on what will go into it. The men moved it at our meeting last week.

That was a great meeting and we had a full house to hear Susan Zook’s presentation on Italy.

Our thanks to Chris Rademacher’s help with visual aid equipment so Susan could show her slides.

Waco debuts at Mt. Morris Jamboree on June 21 Waco will make its debut performance at the Mt. Morris Jamboree on Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m. at the Reckmeyer Band Shell in downtown Mt. Morris.

“Three-fourths of this quartet has graced our band shell stage twice as Anderlik, Otto and Church, though last year’s performance was cut short by rain, they were well received and greatly admired each time,” said event organizer Larry Ubben.

Three of the top bluegrass musicians in the Chicago area, Rob Anderlik, Pat Otto, and Mike Church first met at a late night jam session and felt a deep musical connection from the moment they played together, Ubben said.

Even better, they discovered they shared a wide range of musical interests, ranging from Southern and classic rock, blues, swing, jazz standards, cinematic instrumentals, folk music and of course, bluegrass.

They formed a trio in 2015 and quickly built a reputation as one of the most versatile acoustic bands in the Midwest.

We have had some beautiful days that we feel we really deserve.

In fact at home we have opened some windows for the first time in years.

Our cat goes from window to window enjoying the breeze and listening to the outside sounds.

In the country we could not do that because we had children with breathing problems years ago and we got used to keeping everything closed up.

We just turned on the air and that was that.

With all the rain, our basement is damp along with so many others in town.

The cool air and damp basement is not good as we age so we are taking advantage of the nice breezes outside.

We feel much better as long as the weather is not too hot or too humid.

It is the same way in the museum.

ROAD WORK

Construction work on US 52/Ill. 64 to begin this week The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that construction work on the structure carrying U.S. 52/Illinois 64 over Straddle Creek, located 3.4 miles east of Illinois 78 will begin on June 12, weather permitting.

Civil Constructors will be completing the $384,720 project includ-

ing expansion joint replacement and concrete overlay.

Lane closures with traffic signals and barrier wall will be installed at the structure.

Drivers should be prepared to stop for the signals that will direct travelers through the construction.

Work is expected to be completed

by Aug. 26.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the

posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

I had the pleasure of getting to know this lovely, young lady through Sunday School.

Pastor Charlotte led the children’s message for our young friends, Katelyn, Laura, Harper, and Jojo.

After church, I headed over to a party at the home of Deb and Phil Ohlwine to celebrate the high school graduation of their niece, Theresa Hopkins.

Family and friends gathered to congratulate Theresa who will be attending the University of Arizona this fall.

This past Saturday morning, the ladies of the church gathered for their regular breakfast meeting at the church.

Sharon Baker hosted the meal with Vicki Hay, Jean Cunningham, Sheryl Hopkins, Judy Riffle, and Martha Johanssen enjoying the fellowship.

On Saturday evening, our church family, friends, and neighbors gathered for our first cemetery decoration day followed by our annual neighborhood picnic.

Pastor Charlotte led a ceremony before having everyone place red carnations on the graves.

After the ceremony, everyone shared a delicious potluck dinner outside.

There was much conversation and laughter that went on even with a few raindrops falling from the sky.

The beautiful sunset just beyond the site of our new church was the backdrop for the evening.

This past Wednesday evening, Charlotte and I met up for a night of dinner and a movie in Sterling.

On Friday night, Charlotte and I went to dinner and the musical “The Little Mermaid” at Timberlake Playhouse. I am so grateful for our friendship and conversation.

This past week, my nephew Hayden Bittinger traveled to Costa Rica with a group of high school students from Polo.

We are anxiously awaiting his return to hear about his many adventures.

As we ended our picnic dinner on Saturday night at the church, the light raindrops were beginning to

fall.

As we started to clean up the tables, chairs, and food, the sun came out again and a rainbow appeared.

The beautiful colors stretched out across the cemetery and church. One by one we stopped to look to the sky.

When we see a rainbow, we are reminded that God keeps His promises. We can trust in Him. With all of the problems and delays caused by the weather, we know through it all, God is with us.

Our faith is strong because God has provided for us, day after day, month after month, and year after year.

We can share the good news that we serve a loving and faithful God. Our God is big enough to love and care for all of us and small enough to remind Pine Creek of his continued promises.

My hope will always be that we are filling our churches with those who are hurt, lost, and lonely.

Come and learn about the Father that loves and cares for each of you.

Strite awarded LaVerne Adams Scholarship

Ogle County Clerk Laura J. Cook issued the following marriage licenses.

Oregon High School senior Austin Strite was chosen by the Foundation for Focus House Scholarship Committee as the recipient of the LaVerne Adams Scholarship for $500.

Strite is currently enrolled at Highland Community College, Freeport, and is pursuing a dual degree in Civil Engineering and Agricultural Business.

The LaVerne Adams Scholarship Fund was established in May Russ Crull, Foundation for Focus House Vice President, presents the $500 LaVerne of 2002 following Adams’ death.

SPECIAL EVENT

The John Deere Historic Site kicks off its season of special events with its annual Music & Crafting Through Time Festival on Sunday, June 23 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

This event pairs the entertainment of local musicians with a variety of pioneer-era crafters and artisans demonstrating and selling their wares.

Attendees will learn about candle-making, basket-weaving, broom-making, quilting, tatting, and soap-making.

Children of all ages can also participate in a variety of old-fashioned games like hoop rolling, graces, and potato sack races.

“Our Music & Crafting Through

Time Festival is a great opportunity to have some fun, the old-fashioned way,” said Kristen Veto, manager for the John Deere Historic Site.

“In addition to enjoying a relaxing day of listening to local musicians and learning about pioneering crafts, guests can also experience everything the Historic Site has to offer, including demonstrations by our blacksmith and guided tours of John Deere’s home.”

The performance schedule for the day includes rock and blues musician, Robbie Leblanc from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and easy rock band, Burn N’ Bush from 1 to 3 p.m.

Crafting demonstrations will take place throughout the day.

MT. MORRIS EVENT

Memorial Walk is July 4 Pound the Pavement is a scenic walk and fun run that travels approximately four miles around the streets of Mt. Morris.

It follows the route that Nelson walked every day, in any kind of weather.

More than $12,000 was raised last year with total proceeds over the past years exceeding $110,000 and allocated to the above organizations.

See the registration in this paper to sign up or become a sponsor for the walk. Sponsorships are due by Monday, June 24 for inclusion on the event shirt.

ELKHORN CREEK EVENT

Dragonfly walk set for June 21 Hosted by Northwest Illinois Audubon Society, Cindy and John McKee will share their knowledge of dragonflies and damselflies on Saturday, June 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Elkhorn Creek Preserve southwest of Forreston.

Cindy and John will walk the preserve with participants to capture, identify, and observe these marvelous flying insects.

All ages including families are encouraged to attend.

Binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent and water are suggested.

Refreshments will be available in a shaded area. Portable restrooms will be available at the site.

Participants should meet at Elkhorn Creek Preserve parking lot at 1 p.m.

Join Mt. Morris community along with people from across the U.S. for the 17th annual Lois Nelson Memorial Walk and Fun Run this year as “Pound the Pavement” begins on Thursday, July 4 at 9 a.m. at Dillehay Park in Mt. Morris.

Last year more than 200 walkers and runners, bikers and strollers joined in along with 60 sponsors to support the walk.

This family friendly and now traditional 4th of July community event is also a fundraiser for Northwest Illinois Special Olympics, as Nelson worked with developmentally disabled adults as her vocation and also supporting the Let Freedom Ring Festival.

A hot dog vendor and ice cream truck will be on site for the day, but picnic baskets are also welcomed.

Attendees should know that alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the grounds. Guests are also encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to the event.

Other special events at the Historic Site this season include: Green Iron Days, Aug. 2-4 - A unique biennial event brings together vintage tractor owners displaying their legendary John Deere machines. A special parade will be held Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.

Crop marketing workshop slated for June 19 in Rock Falls

The Lee, Carroll, Ogle and Whiteside County Farm Bureaus along with Country Financial will host a crop marketing workshop on Wednesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Days Inn in Rock Falls.

“Crop Marketing Strategies to Survive the Current Farm Economy” is a two-hour seminar designed specifically for producers to help them manage risk associated with the current low commodity markets and identify market conditions to capture profit margins through 2019 and into 2020.

Dr. Steve Johnson, Iowa State University Extension Farm Management Specialist, will facilitate the program.

During the two-hour program producers will examine the following topics: • Supply Demand and Crop Price Outlook, • Marketing Strategies & Tools, • Seasonal Futures Price and Basis Trends, • Consider Your Cash Flow Needs.

I thought the show would be mainly for children but I believe adults will enjoy it even more.

The special effects include more flying (err….swimming) than in Peter Pan, amazing staging techniques, outstanding voices, delightful dancing, and ingenious costumes.

Chana School Museum annual sale was successful Dear Editor, The Chana School Museum’s annual rummage sale was an event that brought many folks out regardless of the bad weather.

There were smiles on many faces as young and old found treasures to take home.

The funds raised this year were the greatest yet of the 20-plus years of organizing and running the sale.

Why was the sale a major success? Was it the bad weather that brought people out knowing that the Oregon Coliseum would shelter the event, or the incredible donations at bargain prices that attracted the buyers.

Maybe both!

Regardless, the Oregon Coliseum was packed to just about overflowing with a variety of items. The sale had even unusual things like a “suitcase table” and an expensive electric self-raising computer table.

Thanks to Kathy and George Bouska there was an enormous offering of teaching materials for teachers and parents.

Plants sold quickly and were donated to the sale by Tim and Penny O’Rourke, Earlyne Warmolts, Jennifer Kaffenbarger, and me.

This event was a success for several reasons. First, it generated funds that help maintain the old 1883 schoolhouse.

The Chana School Museum runs totally on donations and grants. Volunteers saved the school, restored it, run programs for children, and maintain the building.

The second reason the sale was a success was that there were items brought to the sale that could be used at the museum, such as vintage clothing, office supplies, and a 42-inch flat screen TV. The third reason this event was a success was the fact that people met people and had a good time.

Everyone enjoyed the community spirit that was generated.

Customers were happy getting a super deal.

Volunteers gained a remarkable feeling of making a difference by organizing an event, making the selling area well arranged to attract buyers, and providing an opportunity for folks to visit with one another.

Thanks to the City of Oregon, the Chana School Foundation was able to use the Coliseum again this year for this fundraiser.

The location is perfect for people coming into town for groceries and other tasks or the folks passing through town using highways 2 and 64 who can easily see that there is an event going on at the Coliseum.

Thanks also goes to the newspapers for their great coverage to get the word out to all their readers, Merlin’s Greenhouse for their donation, all the businesses that allowed posters to be displayed before the May 24 and 25 event, the volunteers who were busy for five days dealing with various aspects of the event, and all those who provided items for the sale.

It is amazing that the castoffs of one

person can be a treasure to someone else and even benefit a cause.

Without that type of support, events like Summer Daze will eventually be lost.

Braedon Fyock receives allstate award for baseball Forreston High School’s Braedon Fyock was named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 2019 1A All-State Team.

Fyock, a shortstop on the Cardinals 2019 team, was one of 18 players named to the first team. He signed a letter of intent to play basketball at North Central College, Naperville

earlier this year.

He is the son of Jason and April Fyock.

Micha Knauer, a pitcher and first baseman for River Ridge High School, was the only other area player to receive the honor.

Both Fyock and Knauer are seniors.

Boyer was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

June 9 At 1:13 p.m., police responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of W. Washington Street resulting in the arrest of Shavon R. White, 38, of Oregon, for domestic battery. White was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

Ashley A. Anderson, 35, of Dixon, was issued a citation at 3:22 p.m. for unlawful tinted windows. This violation occurred in the 500 block of S. 4th Street.

Two parking citations and 11 verbal/ written warnings were issued from June 3-9..

OREGON POLICE Oregon Police Chief Darin DeHaan reports the following police activity.

June 4 At 10:50 a.m., police investigated a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of W. Washington and S. 5th Streets involving a 2000 Mack Semi driven by Kerry L. Hix, 64, of Oswego, and a 2003 Honda driven by Amy M. Branscomb, 36, of Chadwick. No citations were issued.

Madeline M. Wright, 28, of Freeport, was arrested at 2:31 p.m. for driving while license suspended. Wright was also issued citations for speeding, 40

mph in a 30 mph zone and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Wright was transported to the Ogle County Jail.

These violations occurred in the 300 block of N. 4th Street.

Roberda M. Lawrence, 50, of Rockford, was issued a citation at 8:23 p.m. for operating a vehicle with an expired registration. This violation occurred in the 100 block of S. 4th Street.

June 5 Chelsie N. Boyer,28, of Oregon, was arrested at 2:10 p.m. on an outstanding Ogle County warrant on a theft charge.

June 8 Adom K. Quansah, 23, of DeKalb, was issued a citation at 5:19 p.m. for speeding, 44mph in a 30mph zone. This violation occurred in the 600 block of S. 4th Street.

Dana M. Amendolare, 28, of Mt. Morris, was issued a citation at 5:42 p.m. for operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

While they ultimately lost the game 15-10, overall they played some very good ball defensively and their pitching stabilized under Leah Calderon for much of the contest.

Mt. Carroll picked up two runs in the top of the first on three singles and a walk.

Makayla Cisketti led off the Polo first by drawing a walk. Two infield outs led to Cisketti scoring to close the score to 2-1 visitors after one.

From games reported on the road over this past week, Polo Two’s Junior Miss team journeyed to Lanark/Eastland June 4.

Before playing so well here June 6, Polo did not play well at Lanark as they dropped a lopsided 18-3 decision.

by Jeff and Melissa Frey went up north to Forreston June 3, where they picked up easy wins by margins of 22-7 and 18-12.

In game one, Polo picked up 10 base on balls in the top of the first inning.

Teah Almassy had Polo’s only hit but that was enough to go along with so many walks as Polo took an early 11-0 lead.

Polo added another 10 runs in the top of the second to bolt to a lopsided 21-0 edge.

In the bottom of the second, Polo switched pitchers and Forreston quickly took advantage of a new hurler and scored seven runs.

A number of walks and several key hits accounted for the uprising.

In the top of the third, Bree Cox scored Polo’s last run on a passed ball. Ali Danekas came in to wrap things up for the win.

Danekas struck out the final three batters to end the game under the 10 run rule.

For the night in game one, Polo banged out eleven hits with Teah

Almassy having two singles and three RBIs. Karlea Frey picked up the win.

In game two at Forreston, Polo was the home team as Reylee Katner went out to pitch in her first start of the season.

Polo batters came alive in the bottom of the inning. Rebekah Ziegler led off the inning with a single.

Six of the next nine batters would also get knocks as Polo plated five runs to go up 11-3 after two.

Forreston, however, was yet to be heard from when Polo changed pitchers going to Emmalee Gilbert.

Gilbert got the first batter but then had control problems which led to the hosts scoring eight runs to tie the game at eleven.

Polo did not waste any time regaining the lead.

Three singles and two doubles greeted the Forreston pitcher as Polo pushed across three to runs to go up 14-11 through three.

After Polo’s Karlea Frey held Forreston scoreless in the top of the fourth, the offense came alive for Polo punching out six singles and a double to bring in four more runs to go up 18-11. With the win, Polo moved to 2-0 for the campaign.

FATAL ACCIDENT

A Monroe Center man died June 5 when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving struck several trees southwest of Monroe Center.

Larry Shearer, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 4900 block of North Wendorf Road.

According to a press release from Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, Shearer was operating

an ATV on a residential driveway when the vehicle went out of control and struck the trees, causing him to be ejected. The crash occurred at 7:50 p.m.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Ogle County Coroner and Monroe Center Fire and Ambulance personnel.

The crash remains under investigation.

SHERIFF ARRESTS Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following arrests.

June 3 Deputies investigated a two-vehicle crash with injuries at 4:04 p.m. at the intersection of Holcomb and Meridian Roads.

A vehicle driven by Beverly Lamkey, 76, of Holcomb, stopped at the intersection but then failed to yield for oncoming traffic.

Lamkey continued west into the intersection and struck a northbound pickup truck driven by Jeannette Crown, 77, of Stillman Valley.

Traffic is controlled at the intersection by stop signs on Holcomb Road. Traffic

on Meridian Road is not required to stop.

Crown was transported to Swedish American Hospital with severe but not life-threatening injuries.

Lamkey was ticketed for failure to yield at an intersection.

Lynn-Scott-Rock and Stillman Valley Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

June 4 Michael P. Remhof, 65, of Leaf River, was arrested for failure to reduce speed and driving under the influence of alcohol after a one-vehicle roil-over crash at 12:48 p.m. in the 400 block of East Third Street.

A van driven by Remhof was westbound on Third Street when the vehicle

crossed over into the east bound lane and into the south side ditch striking an embankment. The vehicle continued westbound in the ditch striking a utility pole and tree before rolling over in the ditch and coming to a stop on its side.

Remhof was extricated from the vehicle by the Leaf River Fire Department and then transported to Swedish American Hospital by the Leaf River ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.

He was given an I-bond at the hospital with a July court date.

Robert Hitchcock, 32, of Oregon, was arrested for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol after a one-vehicle roll-over crash at 3:23 p.m. at the inter-

section of Stillman and Holcomb Roads.

A car driven by Hitchcock was northbound on Stillman Road when he swerved to miss an animal causing the vehicle to enter the east side ditch and roll over into a field.

Hitchcock was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he posted bond and was given a July court date.

June 6 Gary L. Long, 67, of Rockford, was arrested for no valid driver’s license after a traffic stop at 8:13 a.m. in the 3,000 block of North Stillman Road. He was also issued a citation for no headlights when required.

Timothy Huinker, 61, of Hillcrest, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a motorcycle accident at 9 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Blackhawk Road.

He was traveling north when he lost control of the motorcycle prior to entering a curve and crashed.

Huinker was located next to his

motorcycle in the northeast ditch and was transported by Oregon ambulance to Javon-Bea Hospital-Riverside, Rockford, for treatment of multiple injuries.

He was also cited for failure to reduce speed and improper lane usage.

Huinker was given a 3,000 I-bond and a return court date.

June 9 Timothy J. Patzka, 49, of Batavia, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after deputies met with a Lee County deputy at an address on Lincoln Lane outside of Rochelle about an illegal dumping complaint that took place in Lee County.

Patzka had two valid warrants for his arrest, one from Kendall County and one from LaSalle County.

While being placed in custody for the warrants, a baggie containing methamphetamine was found on Patzka’s person. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.

Sentencings Allison J. Anderson, 28, Woosung, pleaded guilty June 6 possession of a controlled substance. Judge Robert Hanson sentenced her to four days in jail and 24 months drug probation without a conviction.

He also ordered her to submit to DNA testing and random drug testing, cooperate with and satisfactorily complete psychological or substance abuse assessments or treatment as recommended, perform 30 hours public service work, and pay total fines and costs of $2,431. Four counts of domestic battery were dismissed pursuant to plea agreement.

William J. Bankhead, 25, Oregon, pleaded guilty June 6 to battery. Judge Robert Hanson sentenced him to 60 days periodic imprisonment and 18 months probation, and ordered him to submit to random drug and alcohol testing, cooperate with and satisfactorily complete psychological or substance abuse assessments or treatment as recommended, have no contact with the

victims, and pay total fines and costs of $1,217.

A count of aggravated battery was dismissed pursuant to plea agreement.

OBITUARY DONNA A. CLINE Donna A. Cline, 81, Oregon, died on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 14, 1937 in Oregon, the daughter of Max and Callista (McMullen) Reinders.

She was a lifelong Oregon area resident, growing up on a farm.

Donna graduated from Oregon High School in 1955.

She married Willis B. Cline on July 11, 1980 in Oregon.
