SAUK VALLEY MEDIA Judge Daniel Fish, who has served as a circuit judge in Lee County since July 2008, is retiring July 8. Fish, who is the chief judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit, has heard a variety of cases during his tenure and now hears most of the lawsuits and juvenile matters pending in Lee County. “I have greatly enjoyed my time on the bench,� said Fish, 64. “It truly has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of the 15th Judicial Circuit.

An effective and efficient judicial system is important to our community, and I am pleased that I was able to contribute to it.� Fish’s seat will be filled by Associate Judge Douglas Lee, who the Illinois Supreme Court appointed to the spot on April 29. Lee will begin his role as circuit judge on July 9. “While I am sorry to see Judge Fish retire, I am

humbled by the Supreme Court’s confidence in me,�

Lee said. “I look forward to serving the 15th Judicial Circuit in a different role and pledge to work as hard as I can to be the best circuit judge I can be.� It’s been a year of changes in the Lee County Courthouse.

In December, Judge Ronald Jacobson retired at age 61, Associate Judge Jacquelyn Ackert, 51,

replaced him, and Lee, 56, was appointed to her associate’s spot on Jan. 2.

His appointment as circuit judge runs through the last day of Fish’s term, Dec. 7, 2020. Lee said he intends to run to retain the circuit position in the Republican primary election in March 2020 and, if successful, in that November’s general election. Lee took the bench after spending almost 27 years practicing law in Dixon, most recently with Ehrmann Gehlbach Badger Lee & Considine. Before returning to Dixon to practice law in 1991, Lee practiced for four years in Washington, D.C., with Baker & Hostetler. Before taking the bench, Fish served three terms as the Lee County State’s Attorney and worked in private practice for seven years. In all, Fish has been practicing law or working as a judge since 1981. “It’s time for me to step down,â€? Fish said. “I’m looking forward to traveling and spending time with my family.â€?Â

With the impending retirement of Judge Daniel Fish and the promotion of Judge Douglas Lee, the 15th Judicial Circuit is in need of a new associate judge.

The position will be filled by a vote of the judges of the 15th,

which includes Ogle, Lee, Carroll, Stephenson, and Jo Daviess Counties.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens licensed to practice law in Illinois and residents of the 15th Circuit.

Their names will be released after

the deadline, so the public can comment on their candidacies, and a bar poll will be requested.

Tractor jamboree is May 18 Preparations are underway for the 10th annual AJ’s Garden Tractor Jamboree on Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1675 S. Columbian Rd., southwest of Oregon.

“As the weather has warmed over the last week or so we are all looking forward to another fun and exciting day,” said host AJ Hinrichs. “There is plenty of room for parking and garden tractors. Last year was we had over 250 garden tractors and we hope to increase that to at least 300 this year.”

Collectors from all over the Midwest bring their tractors out for a chance to share their enthusiasm for these pint sized pieces of history.

“We have had people come from as far away as Minneapolis, Minnesota and tractors from as far back as the 1940s,” said co-host Lisa Hinrichs, “There is something for everyone to enjoy at the show.”

Along with the usual show and shine event, many more activities are planned for exhibitors and spectators.

A parade, swap meet, plowing, and Garden Tractor Poker Run are featured.

“You won’t want to miss the slowest tractor race, and the chain pile race.

This year we added the Hinrichs Power Museum, a building filled with hit and miss engines, and we have two blacksmiths on site doing demonstrations,” Lisa said.

A charity auction will be held at 12 p.m. with baked goods, parts, trees and a custom wagon for a garden tractor.

All proceeds will be donated to the Blackhawk Crossing 4-H Club to pay membership dues, programming, and support community service projects.

Enjoy a pork chop or steak sandwich while watching kids of all ages take a turn on the tractor teeter totter.

Admission is $5 per person ages 5 and older.

Marco Band earns excellent rating at competition The PCHS band got a chance to play their hearts out and later ride some roller coasters on Saturday, May 11th.

The band, directed by Jamie Apperson, traveled all the way to Gurnee, Illinois, where they performed for two judges at the Music in the Parks competition.

Miss Scott here, sending a huge thank you to any and all who helped create the Marcolite this year.

Each issue took time, effort, creativity (and sometimes patience). If you were interviewed, if you wrote an article (or 97 articles), if you gave ideas, inspiration, or even lent a bad joke, here’s to you. Thank you. You da real MVP. — A special thanks to Mr. Faivre for his constant encouragement and patience. — And finally, a resounding thanks to all who picked up an issue of The Marcolite at some point this year.

Whether you’re a regular member of our audience and read the weekly works put out by the Creative Writing students or you just stumbled upon this issue, know that the Marcolite staffs [both first and second semesters’ staffs and myself] are incredibly happy with the amount of support we’ve had in this huge endeavor.

The Marcos were awarded the Espirit de Corps award for their outstanding behavior.

This award was given to only one music group, band or choir, that displayed themselves best on Saturday.

Following their performances, the band made their way to Six Flags in Gurnee and spent the rest of their

day having fun at the park.

The PCHS band students played various arcade games, rode lots of awesome roller coasters, and even had some yummy funnel cake with hot fudge.

It was a truly amazing day for the PCHS band and we congratulate them on their performances!

Professional wrestler dead in ring “Silver King” dies mid-match Cesar Barron, commonly known by his in ring name “Silver King” unfortunately died an untimely death on Saturday, May 11th while wrestling.

Wrestling his role of masked villain, King suffered an apparent

heart attack during the match, one that proved to be fatal.

Under the code of Lucha Libre, Mexican Wrestling, the mask should never be removed and/or the identity of the wrestler never revealed.

The referee that night removing King’s mask to perform a welfare check made the distress obvious to fans in attendance.

King was only 51, having wrestled superstars such as Eddie Guerrero

and Rey Mysterio, King has always been a wrestler.

WWE extended their well wishes and condolences to Silver King’s family as did Jack Black, tweeting out “Go with God, brother” in Spanish following the news.

King would be recognized by non-wrestling fans as “Ramses” in 2006’s Nacho Libre.

We know that our prayer will be answered and while we wait, our God is with us.

For the ways He keeps watch over us, we are forever thankful.

This morning in church, we were greeted by Lyle and Sheryl Hopkins.

Our special music was provided by Chuck Kearns.

Pastor Charlotte Hoppe led the children’s message for young Amelia.

The mothers of the church were treated with a special presentation for Mother’s Day.

Pinecricker Cafe’ and served at 6:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting and speaker, Betty Obendorf, Class of 1950, Curator of the Polo History Museum for more than 20 years, former first grade

teacher, and 2001 Polo Citizen of the Year.

A 50/50 raffle is also planned.

The excitement of the past few weeks continues to build as the ground for our new church building is being prepared for what lies ahead.

This past Saturday morning, the women of the church gathered for the regular breakfast meeting.

Hosted by Sandra Ford, the ladies enjoyed a wonderful meal and a special time of fellowship.

Hostess Sandra asked the ladies to share memories of their mothers.

Everyone enjoyed hearing the wonderful stories and sharing their own.

Joining the fun and fellowship were Sheryl Hopkins, Martha Johannsen, Judy Riffle, Jean Cunningham, Charlotte Hoppe, and Vicki Hay. This past Wednesday evening, I attended the honors night at Polo Community High School with my brother, Ben Bittinger and his wife, Jo. Both of their sons, Hayden, and Garrett, were honored along with the rest of the talented senior class.

On Friday evening, I met my friend, Teresa, for a night out at the

movies.

We sometimes underestimate the power of friendship and enjoying a stress-relieving night out.

I am truly blessed to have a wonderful circle of friends who are just a phone call away.

My children sent me a lovely Mother’s Day gift of appreciation.

My favorite part of the gift is that they talked to each other and planned the gift together.

Even though they are miles apart, my children have remained close over the years.

Tonight, I was especially happy to have phone calls with my sons, Matt, and Clint.

Matt’s wife, Ema, joined in the conversation, too. I was able to catch up with Matt about his recent trip to Arizona and about Ema’s upcoming hiking trip.

Clint shared stories about working in the shop and his activities from the weekend. He is making plans to come home later this summer.

We made preliminary plans for his trip with the possibility of heading north to visit with Stephanie.

I am looking forward to our time

together. I look forward to the time when our children will be together in the same room again.

I hope that will happen sooner than later. I have faith that it will happen, even though I don’t know when or how.

When we allow ourselves to put our trust in God, we know great things will happen.

Just recently, several of my prayers have been answered.

Prayers that were spoken several years ago.

His answers are even bigger than I would have imagined for myself.

It is so good to know we have a loving Father who watches over each of us.

We can look forward to the plans of tomorrow because He cares for each of us.

I hope you will come and join us to learn more about the love and care that awaits those who love God. My continued hope is that we will fill our area churches with love for God and love for each other.

Come and join us for a time of praise and worship. There is room in our family for you and yours.

Rochelle Township High School senior Graciela Perez, was awarded a general Foundation for Focus House scholarship in the amount of $250 at her senior awards night on May 6.

Perez plans to attend Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts,

in the fall to pursue a degree in Accounting.

Stillman Valley High School senior Paige Lockard, was awarded a general Foundation for Focus House scholarship in the amount of $250 at her senior awards night on May 7.

Reynold Alde, of Mullins Farms, will instruct the precision agriculture training classes this summer.

He intends to split class time between learning theory and working out in the field with the equipment and software.

The two community education courses in precision ag will help students learn about mapping boundary lines (including interior boundaries), creating a grid, flagging the field, and writing a variable rate application prescription.

Courses are geared toward people looking at precision agriculture as a career or those who may want to enter the profession as a crop scout or applicator.

Summer AG Institute for educators offered in June The Summer Ag Institute, a handson learning experience for educators, is a six-day program, June 10-14 & 17, for teachers who will learn first-hand about agriculture and how to incorporate Ag lesson plans into their classroom curriculums.

Program participants will travel to area farms and agri-businesses and also enjoy classroom presentations from industry experts.

The Kishwaukee College Foundation recently worked with five local donors to purchase a variety of equipment needs for the new agriculture program.

A John Deere UTV Crossover Gator, Demco 80-gallon 21-inch boom sprayer, John Deere Rate Controller 2000, and John Deere AutoTrac Universal 300, among other various components, were donated last fall for a total of $26,088.21.

The purchase was made possible through a combination of funding sources, including new donations and funds from current donors and their established funds.

Donors contributing include DeKalb Implement Company, a John Deere dealership; HBB Foundation at Babson Farms; the Wildenradts Endowment; the Kishwaukee College Foundation Challenge Fund established by Dave and Suzanne Juday and Bill Nicklas; and the Dutch Johnson Endowment.

Steve Glascock, of Babson Farms, said the HBB Foundation choose Kish because of its history and association with agriculture.

Solar energy class is offered May 25 near Oregon Anyone who is interested in knowing more about solar electricity or is thinking about a home solar installation is invited to attend a class hosted by the Illinois Renewable Energy Association on Saturday, May 25, at the IREA Headquarters, 1230 E. Honey Creek Rd., Oregon.

The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1230 E. Honey Creek Rd. Oregon. All equipment will be provided.

An experienced PV installer who has completed more than 600 systems in this part of Illinois will be the instructor.

He will present a clear explanation of what solar electricity is and how it works.

After the presentation, he

will lead the class in assembling an actual PV system meant for home use, wiring it and watching it work. The group will then disassemble it.

The couple who live with the installation at the center, which is their home, will share their experiences in living with PV. The fee is $20 for IREA members and $40 for non-members, which includes membership.

An optional lunch will be provided for $6. Those who prefer to bring their own lunch may do so.

Barrick Oaks Homestead tour on Saturday, May 18 The Byron Forest Preserve District will offer a free guided tour of its rarely visited Barrick Oaks Homestead Preserve on Saturday, May 18 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Superintendent of Education Mark Herman will lead the walk beginning at the preserve’s gravel parking lot located at 3494 Oak Grove Road just off of Tower Road north of Byron.

This scenic, little known, 230 acre preserve features old oak savannas, limestone bluffs and a beautiful wetland section of East Fork Middle Creek that features an active beaver colony.

The Barrick Oaks Homestead Preserve is another of the Byron Forest Preserve District’s hidden gems.

There will be uneven terrain, moderate hiking and some wet areas.

This free program is recommended for ages 10 and up.

The White Pines Wedding Canyon and Pine Creek Cabins, near the White Pines State Park, had a change of ownership earlier this spring.

Elizabeth George, who has owned the two properties for the last 18 years, has sold them to Rebecca Jones. The sale was final on April 1.

Jones said George, who gave her her first job when she was 13, has been her mentor for 20 years.

“It’s just time — I’ve been doing this for a long time,” George said.

“It’s time for the next generation to step up and move forward. Weddings are a great place for a young woman to get her feet wet. Rebecca has worked for me off and on since she was a teenager. She’s going to do a phenomenal job.”

After living in Phoenix for the eight years, Jones moved back to this area in August of 2017.

In Phoenix, she was the food and beverage director of Grayhawk Golf Club and responsible for $9 million in food and beverage sales.

The White Pines Wedding Canyon is located on Pines Road between Oregon and Polo.

“After seven years in that position and some wonderful mentorship in Phoenix, I was ready to come back and use my acquired knowledge in a town I love,” Jones said. “While I

She said she and Jones will work together to coordinate weddings.

“Weddings will still be a one stop shop and this partnership is sure to meet all your expectations,” Jones said.

The offenders had left the scene, but deputies located their vehicle and stopped it at 11:35 p.m. as it traveled south on Chana Road and turned onto Grist Mill Road.

Koeller and Dodson were arrested then, and deputies later located Christenson and McGlinn and arrested them.

Dodson, the driver the vehicle, was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

He pleaded not guilty to that charge at the April 10 hearing.

Charges have been upgraded to felonies for four people accused of beating two men in Chana last month.

Amber Koeller, 26, Steven Dodson, 41, and Patrick Christenson, 27, all of Chana, and Stephanie McGlinn, 27, of Byron, are now each face two counts of mob action, a Class 4 felony, instead of two counts of battery, a misdemeanor, in the April 20 incident.

In addition, Koeller and Dodson are each charged with obstructing a peace officer.

Koeller and Dodson appeared May 10 at a hearing before Ogle County Judge John Redington, who set preliminary hearings for both on May 29.

They were represented in court by Rochelle attorney David Tess.

Christenson and McGlinn are scheduled to appear in court on May 17.

According to a press release from Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, the two victims were found at 10:45 p.m. at the scene of the battery near the intersection of Chana Road and Center Street.

Forreston will play again this Friday on their home field

What I learned today is that smaller schools (Forreston) are used to slower pitching.”

The Mustangs also got a bit of life in the top of the fourth inning. After a groundout, the next two batters reached on a tough pop-up and slow grounder nobody bothered to field for Forreston.

Jenna Lilly had an infield single and Kate Vos came in on a passed ball, cutting the lead to 7-1. Olivia McCoy then doubled for two more runs and 7-3 deficit. After giving up another single, Greenfield got out of the jam.

With two outs in the fourth, Broshous had a 2-run double, plating Taylor Greenfield and Houston for a 9-3 lead.

Morrison put together three hits to load the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth inning. In the defensive play of the game, Taylor Greenfield snagged an infield liner at third base and threw to Smith at second for a double play.

The next batter made good contact on the ball, only to see Smith get underneath it and throw to first for the final out.

“I felt we thought quicker and were thinking ahead,” Snider said.

Erdmann, Smith, Kaylee Kloster, Broshous and Houston all had three hits in a combined 15-19 (.789 average) batting. Greenfield allowed nine hits, no walks and had three strikeouts.

Forreston started the season 1-4 and ended it with the exact same 1-4 record. In between, they were 14-1.

In NUIC play, Forreston (16-9, 9-6) took fourth behind Orangeville and Durand (both 13-1) and Durand (102). Polo was sixth with a 3-10 record and 4-15 overall.

“We had a little lull at the end of the, but have got it going and are peaking at the right time,” Snider said.

Forreston handled Milledgeville 18-2 and 8-3, but only beat Polo 5-4.

“We struggled hitting against Polo,” Snider said. “Regardless of who we play, we have to play with energy and hit well.”

The preliminaries are out of the way for the Forreston softball team in anticipation of a regional final with either Polo or Milledgeville this Friday, May 17.

The Cardinals dispatched of Morrison (1-20) in only 67 minutes in its first 1A regional contest at Forreston on Tuesday.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Alexus Houston put the 10-run rule in effect with a long shot to the centerfield fence, sending Kara Erdmann, Brycelynn Smith and Kaylee Kloster home for a 14-3 win.

“Overall, we hit phenomenal,” Forreston coach Kim Snider said.

Ahead 9-3 heading into the fifth, Breanna Kloster started things off with an infield single off Emma Peppers. Erdmann and Smith also followed with infield hits.

Breanna Kloster came in on her older sister reaching base on a Morrison error, one of three on the game for the Mustangs. Then, it was Houston sending everyone home by suppertime.

“Our kids came excited and ready to play,” Snider said.

That was evident in the first inning, when starting pitcher Hannah Linder was hammered for four runs (Erdmann, Smith, Houston and Paityn Broshous). Kaylee Kloster probably would have should too, but was thrown at third trying to stretch a double into an extra base.

“We weren’t ready at the beginning and they were,” Morrison coach Korby Paul said.

With Sam Greenfield shutting the Mustangs down from the mound, Forreston increased its lead to 7-0 after two innings.

Erdmann tripled to the left field fence, Smith reached via error, Kloster had a grounder up the middle and Broshous singled.

In the third inning, Peppers replaced Linder at pitcher and the smoking hot Cardinal bats finally cooled down. Peppers retired the side on a pitch must faster than what Linder had been throwing.

Polo (9-8) advanced to face top-seeded Newman on Wednesday, May 15 in Lanark.

The Marcos loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The bottom three batters in the lineup – Gavin Zell, Joey Bardell and Braiden Soltow – all reached consecutively, but Still induced a groundout by Lucas Hammond to squash the rally.

Polo finally broke through to tie the game at 1 in the sixth. Brady Clark sent an opposite-field single into left to score Faivre with two outs in the inning.

Lucas Hammond recorded the Marcos’ first hit of the game on the first pitch of the bottom of the fourth. Young followed with a double into the left-center gap, but Hammond was thrown out at home after a perfect relay by the Mustangs.

Still allowed five hits and three walks while striking out two. He tossed 87 pitches in 7 1/3 innings.

“He made the next step as a senior in his leadership,” Budka said of Still. “He really showed me what he’s got in the last couple games. He looked like he belonged on the hill and at the plate.”

Soltow struck out seven and allowed six hits and three walks for the Marcos.

GIRLS TRACK SECTIONAL

Lady Hawks run, jump, throw well at sectional F-P athletes compete, but fail to advance to state

BY ANDY COLBERT acolbert@oglecountynews.com Even though Winnebago edged Oregon 138-127 at the 1A girls track & field sectional meet, depriving the host school of a first-ever title, it did not take away from a big jump the Hawks made from 2018 to 2019.

Last year, Oregon qualified three individuals and one relay for the state meet and took a distant third to Winnebago.

This time out, it was a whopping six individuals in seven events and two relays headed to Charleston, site of the IHSA state meet.

“I’m really proud of how many PRs we had and the way everyone stepped up,” said one of those returning qualifiers, Lydia Cermak. “It’s okay we didn’t win the meet.

We’re sending enough people down.”

With six state qualifiers all hitting personal bests, the field events couldn’t have started any better for Oregon on May 10.

Within 45 minutes, Cynthia Nyderek improved nearly two feet in the triple jump

to win with a 35-feet-2 mark, Abi Hopkins popped a 34-8 for second, Lydia Cermak won the long jump at 16-8, Lyndi Kenney was second in the pole vault at 9-0 and Brenna Noon (39-10) and Jenae Bothe (36-11) went 1-2 in the shot put.

“That was a case of good mental and physical preparation,” Oregon coach Nick Schneiderman said. “This week, they rested up and let the body heal. They came in tonight ready to do battle.”

Bothe also added a discus qualification with a second-place effort of 104-8. That gave Oregon 58 points in the field events, adding in a fourth by Noon in the discus.

As they’ve done all year, it was Hopkins and Nyderek winning at hurdles. Hopkins set a PR of 16.26 in the 100-meter hurdles and Nyderek caught Hopkins the final 10 meters for a 48.03 to 48.46 win in the 300.

Forreston-Polo got a third from Alyssa Wakenight (94-5) in the discus and sixth from Lexi Cox (2:46) in the 800. They finished in 12th place out of 19 teams with 7 points.

“Those are extra places we didn’t think we’d get,” F-P coach Terry Jenkins said.

BOYS TRACK

BY ANDY COLBERT acolbert@oglecountynews.com By now, people are probably losing count of how many NUIC boys track and field titles that Forreston-Polo has won.

Certainly, the rest of the league has got to be tired of the annual beatdowns by what has become the area’s top small-school program.

This 2019 version of the conference meet was more of the same with F-P tallying 158 points. Galena-RR-ED was second at 98, Lena-Winslow third with 83 and the up-and-coming Dakota Indians fourth at 79.

With a bulk of F-P’s points coming from sophomores and juniors, look for more of the same next year. In fact, sophomore Jordan Neuschwander was named co-MVP for wins in

the 100 (11.44), 200 (23.26) and two sprint relays.

The youth movement continued with sophomore Bennett Soltow winning the high hurdles (15.97) and taking second in the 300s. Junior Dom Christensen was second in the 200 (23.65) and won the pole vault (11-0).

Another junior, Jace Coffey, won the discus at 153-9 and continues to hold down the No. 2 spot in 1A. Other field event winners were Brady Webb in the long jump (2111) and Ethan Phillips in the triple jump (41-1). Garett Badertscher was second in the shot put (46-5) to Isaiah Bruce of Le-Win. On the winning 400 (43.86) and 800 (1:33.68) relays, it was Neuschwander, Evan Kelsey, Christensen and Webb.

his weekend has the potential to be quite exciting for Forreston and Polo spring sports. In fact, by the time you read this on Friday, the Forreston-Polo boys track and field team should have won the 1A sectional the night before.

Friday afternoon at Forreston brings the softball regional final that likely could feature No. 6 seed Polo facing the home team.

The Cardinals baseball team appears headed for a delicious regional final on Saturday with Amboy.

Heading into the Eastland regional, Polo baseball will be a long shot to make the finals. But, anything is possible.

Credit to Forreston for scheduling softball and baseball on separate days. Cardinals fans now have a cornucopia of sports to watch on three days in a row without missing anything.

My favorite thing that Forreston does is scheduling Saturday football playoff games later in the day so as to avoid conflicting with all the 1

Special thanks all year long to Forreston athletic director Kyle Zick for his efficient manner of notifying the media of schedule changes and sending results in a prompt manner. Few ADs approach his level of attention to detail and all of us in the media appreciate that for making our jobs easier.

While reading Sunday’s Rockford Register Star, there was an article about the seeding of the 1A softball sub-sectionals. Coaches from the sub-sectional opposite the one Forreston and Polo are in did plenty of whining of how unfair it is. They also questioned why the IHSA has all the better teams in one sub-sectional.

I will not dispute the fact that No. 1 seed Forreston is 0-7 against the top five seeds in the other sub-sectional

and No. 2 seed South Beloit lost by 10 runs to NUIC doormat Galena.

The other sub-sectional is substantially better, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is geography.

No matter what sport it is, the IHSA assigns teams based upon their location, not on records or reputation.

I questioned an IHSA official during football season on this very subject and he informed me the IHSA follows a strict computerized formula on a school’s geographical location. It doesn’t get any fairer than that.

It just so happens that some of the best softball in the state in played in a small pocket of northwest Illinois.

Deal with it.

Up until this past season, good Polo basketball teams dealt with the same situation in the regionals they were assigned to. That is just one of a multitude of examples of seedings that happen all over the state in every sport, every season and every year.

The IHSA has to be sick and tired of listening to all the harping done by coaches about it.

One suggestion offered by one of the disgruntled softball coaches was to seed by the entire sectional, instead of two separate sub-sectionals. I like that idea, but what about the extra travel involved?

With Rockford Christian bumped up to 2A and Winnebago, Byron and Oregon shells of what they used to be, Forreston-Polo’s track team should dominate the sectional in manner they haven’t before.

Last year, RC beat them 123-114, before going on to be the state runner-up. The year before, F-P got RC 121-114, though I conspiracy-theorized that RC let F-P win on purpose so they wouldn’t be bumped up to 2A for the 2018 season.

After having its way with the locals all season, things will get interesting the following week at the state meet for F-P. A state trophy is a long shot, but top 10 is doable with returning placers Brady Webb and Jace Coffey, along with the sprint relays.

With AJ Christensen picking up 20 points, F-P scored 27 to place seventh last year.

OGLE COUNTY SHERIFF

May 8 James Morrison, 57, of Rockford, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. He was held in the Ogle County Jail in lieu of a full cash bond of $6,447 pending a court appearance.

Declan Blumenthal, 20, of Byron, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for violation of a stalking no contact order. He was released from the Ogle County Jail after posted $3,000 (10%) bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 31.

Deputies responded to a single vehicle roll-over crash at 11:40 a.m. in the 8,000 block of East Flagg Road. A vehicle driven

by Daniel Lee, 77, of Dixon, was west-

bound when it left the right side of the roadway.

Lee was transported by Ashton ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

He was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

May 9 Nathan D. Stinnett, 36, of Franklin Grove, was arrested for driving without a license, expired registration, and no insurance after a traffic stop at 9:50 a.m. at Sixth and Jefferson Streets in Oregon.

He was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he posted bond and was given a June court date.

Rickey Graff ,50, of Freeport, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for theft. He was held in the Ogle County Jail in lieu of $50,000 (10%) bond

warrant for failure to appear. He was held in the Ogle County Jail on a full cash bond of $1,686 pending a court appearance.

May 13 Deputies responded to the 10,000 block of North Illinois 2 at 8:34 a.m. for a crash involving an injury.

A car driven by Kaitlyn Lawson, 20, of Dixon was northbound in the 10,000 block when it went off of the east side of the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a culvert.

The vehicle then crossed back over both lanes before coming to rest in the west side of the ditch.

Lawson was transported to Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, by Byron EMS for non-life threatening injuries. She was later issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

OBITUARY FAYE M. HADLEY Faye Marie Hadley, 92, of Polo, went home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Rock River Hospice and Home of Sterling.

Faye was born on Oct. 14, 1926 in Eldena, the daughter of Jess and Alice (Fisher) Gowan.

She married George M. Hadley on June 13, 1943 in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2011.

Faye and her husband farmed all their years, the last 52 years near Hazelhurst.

Faye loved gospel music and played piano for church services and nursing homes, beginning at age 13 and continued until her death.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling and from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to services at the church.

Burial will take place at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

OBITUARIES EUGENE O. MYERS Eugene O. Myers, 71, of Forreston, died on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at home peacefully in his sleep.

Eugene was born in Freeport on June 20, 1947 to Milford and Helen (Wagner) Myers.

He married Eileen V. Landon on Oct. 19, 1968 in Clinton, Iowa.

Eugene was a 1965 graduate of Leaf River High School.

He worked for more than 25 years at Quebecor in Mt. Morris.

He was a vendor at the Stephenson County Farmer’s Market for more than 35 years.

He delivered newspapers for more than 10 years for the Freeport Journal Standard.

Eugene loved the outdoors and enjoyed trapping, mushroom hunting, watching and feeding birds, and gardening.

Eugene was devoted to God. He enjoyed everything about trains.

Eugene will be missed by his wife, Eileen; son, Christopher (Sarah) Myers, of Hartford, Wisconsin; daughters, Ronda (Jeff) Lindsay, of Lanark, and Sheila (Mike) Piper, of Ohio, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Kadie, Levi, Becky, Doran, Angela, Andrew, Cail and Abigail; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and a daughter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at BurkeTubbs Funeral Home in Forreston.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

LaVonne Doris (Moring) Vogt, 94, previously from Forreston, died on Sunday May 12, 2019.

LaVonne was born on Aug. 22, 1924, the daughter of John and Gertie (Reints) Moring.

She married Eugene C. Vogt on Nov. 14, 1945 in Freeport.

For many years she worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, supplies delivery, and architect for the family construction business.

She also worked at the Forreston School cafeteria and for a brief time at Micro Switch, and also worked with Gene as the concessionaires at the White Pines State Park for 10 years.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Terry Allen Vogt, of Maui, Hawaii; daughter, Joyce Lorraine (Craig) LeBaron, of Freeport; sister-in-law, Lois E. (Roger) Bruckner, of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Tyler (Melissa) Vogt, of Forreston, Tricia (Mick) Franklin, of Winnebago, and Jennifer (Joe Scurek) LeBaron, of Arlington Heights; great-grandchildren, Allison Franklin, Krista Franklin, Jessica Franklin, all of Winnebago, and Taylor Vogt, Marisa Vogt and Hailee Vogt, all of Forreston; and

many nieces and nephews.

Lavonne was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Eugene; her parents, daughter-in-law, Joann Vogt; three brothers, Clarence (Mary) Moring, Mervin (Florence) Moring, and Lloyd (Johanna) Moring; and in-laws, Clay and Rosa Vogt.

A celebration of life was held on May 16 at BurkeTubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Pastor Brian LeBaron officiating.

Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
