Illinois State Police (ISP) are turning to the public for help in solving the homicide case involving Deborah Dewey, the missing Ladd woman whose body was found buried in a shallow grave at a vacant home in Standard. On Thursday, Sept. 22, Lt. Jeff Padilla, an investigator with the ISP, confirmed the search is on for anyone with knowledge about Clifford Andersen during

that time frame. He said investigators are still working on a time line and building a case. “We have a very strong case, but there is still a lot of work to do. We’re still very much in the middle of this investigation,” he said, adding police are currently analyzing phone records. Police have posted fliers around the TA Truck Stop/R Place Restaurant in Morris area asking for anyone who may have seen Andersen or given him a ride between Monday, Aug. 22,

TONICA — Anyone who has spent time driving on area roads, especially in the evening, knows there’s a sizable deer population in Illinois. Drivers are also likely aware of the danger of sharing the road with them as the list of deer accidents regularly appearing in police reports shows. New data reveals the

risk of deer collisions in the state is increasing. Using data from insurance claims and state licensed driver counts from the Federal Highway Administration, State Farm has calculated Illinois drivers are nearly 4 percent more likely to collide with a deer than they were the previous year.

TONICA — Tonica School Board made some changes at its Sept. 21 meeting. Regan Sluder, the board secretary, resigned. That left two positions open — board secretary and one board member position. In order to conduct board business for the meeting, a current board member had to be appointed secretary pro tempore until a new board secretary could begin the duties. Jackie Anderson served this position through the public budget hearing and the beginning of the regular meeting. During the course of the meeting, Al Leffelman was appointed board secretary and began the duties. The open board member position was filled by Julie Goff-Rietgraf, who was sworn in at the meeting. In other news, Tonica School has developed an evaluation system which should help measure performance. At the meeting, Principal Chuck Schneider updated the board on the district’s Certified Staff Evaluation and Supervision Plan, in accordance with the Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA).
