“Shall the minimum wage in Illinois for adults over the age of 18 be raised to $10 per hour by Jan. 1, 2015?” That’s one of the questions that Illinois voters are asked this fall. It’s a question Sauk Valley Media asked its Facebook followers in a posting about 2 p.m. Oct. 27. Not quite 24 hours later, 280some responses had been posted, and the article had reached nearly 25,000. That’s more comments than any Rita-Crundwell-Nick-Sheleylegalize-pot-fix-the-potholesname-your-hot-button-topic story has spawned in recent SVM Facebook history. Clearly, people care. Not that that will mean anything on Election Day: In Illinois, the minimum wage referendum is advisory only. Illinois’ current minimum wage is $8.25 per hour – the sixth-highest in the United States. The federal rate is $7.25 per hour. RAISED CONTINUED ON A12

Joe Biden have been doing, especially of late, for Quinn. While many Democrats have been distancing themselves from the White House and the president’s low approval numbers, Quinn has consistently supported his fellow Democrat’s platforms, especially when it comes to healthcare and raising the minimum wage – both of which were topics Obama touched on during her speech.
