ROCK FALLS – Ribbons will be cut today, and the first student groups will experience the Storybook Trail. A dedication ceremony for the first permanent Storybook Trail in Illinois will begin at 10 a.m. at the bridge near Avenue D, and at 12:30 p.m., 60 third-graders from Lincoln Elementary School in Sterling will walk the half-mile trail. The trail extends from Avenue D near Linville Crossing to McNeil Road. Organizers weren’t sure the trail could be ready until spring, but Eagle Scouts were able to set up the 32 poles that hold pages from the books. The Scouts also built birdhouses for the trail. All of the books will have nature themes, and activities related to each book will be planned. The city worked on the project with Mary Nelson, a program director with the University of Illinois Extension Service. STORYBOOK CONTINUED ON A3
