ROCK FALLS – Every year about this time, the city’s Public Works panel starts planning for the next round of roads projects. But this year, it will be done against a backdrop of unusual circumstances. Public Works took up the roads and sidewalks conversation Thursday, reviewing what remains from last year’s list, and trying to determine whether new projects could become a bigger priority. “There are sidewalks that have dropped near the high school, and many of them downtown are full of cracks,” Chairman Daehle Reitzel said. ROCK FALLS – The city is working with engineers to start bidding and finalize its loan agreement for a water well project estimated to cost $607,000. Engineer Matt Hansen of Willett, Hofmann & Associates provided an update on the process Thursday at a Public Works/Public Property Committee meeting. Hansen has been working on the application to borrow money from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Public Water Supply Loan Program. WELL CONTINUED ON A4

Treat yourself to beer, brats in Tampico 2
TAMPICO – The second Beer and Brat Fest will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Reagan Community Center (the former grade school), 202 W. Second St. The event is a fundraiser for the Tampico Historic Preservation Advisory Committee. Admission is free. The Crystal Cork Wine Shoppe in Dixon will sell beer and wine. Brats, hot dogs, side dishes, soft drinks and water also will be sold. There will be live music, a DJ and a 50/50 raffle.

STERLING – The 24th annual Great Pumpkin Dash Cross Country Festival for kids 12 and younger will return Saturday to Hoover Park, 3807 Woodlawn Road. Winners get a large pumpkin, and the first 1,000 finishers receive a small pumpkin. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and the first race will start at 11. There also will be a petting zoo, bounce houses, ambulance tours, face painting, and more. There is no charge, but a $1 donation would be appreciated.

Visit Oregon for Autumn on Parade
OREGON – The 45th annual Autumn on Parade Festival will be Saturday and Sunday in the downtown. The Harvest Time Parade will kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday. Other highlights include a Create a Canvas painting event that begins at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and a wine tasting that starts at 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $20 for the tasting and $30 for the painting. An arts-andcrafts fair and a farmers market will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the Ogle County Courthouse lawn and surrounding streets.
