MILLEDGEVILLE – After sitting vacant since its inception, ground will be broken at the village’s business park. Midwestern BioAg will put shovels in the ground Tuesday for its 17,000-square-foot fertilizer blending and distribution facility at the intersection of state Route 40 and Shannon Road. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the construction site, rain or shine. A barbecue luncheon and program are planned. State and village officials, company representatives, and local farmers will participate. The company expects to hire 15 to 20 workers at the Milledgeville site in the next 2 years, as it broadens its reach in Illinois. FERTILIZER CONTINUED ON A2

STERLING – It wasn’t easy, but the city’s 20th mural was unveiled Sunday as planned as part of the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social. “Lincoln in Sterling” received some finishing touches across the street, literally minutes before the noon ceremony at the Lincoln-Manahan Home. Local artists John Gragert, his sons, Gaston, Bradon, Kylon, and Nolan, and a friend, Alex “Bean” Cantu, overcame their final challenge in the mural project – a driving rain that subsided just long enough to get the ceremony in about a half-hour later than planned. The artists uncovered a quote on the painting often attributed to Lincoln: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” MURAL CONTINUED ON A11

Cathy Ferguson, who has been administrator of the Lee County Health Department since June 2003, was recently named president-elect of the Illinois Public Health Association – a 7,000-member strong group that advocates on behalf of public health issues in Illinois.

How did you get into this field? I kind of toyed around with a few different majors. I was interested in P.E. and nutrition, but I was worried about there being jobs in P.E., so when I went to Illinois State and talked to a counselor, and when I heard about [public health], it sounded so interesting.
