Fire district spells help ‘ATS’ Loves Park will continue to lend a hand for ambulance service a little while longer BY VINDE WELLS vwells@shawmedia.com Shaw Media
OREGON – Loves Park has been a real lifesaver for Oregon, and it looks like they’ll continue to be for at least a little while longer.
Oregon Fire District officials met with ATS Ambulance Service leaders last week to iron out details of an extended contract. The fire district’s attorney, Brian O’Connor of Elburn, advised the fire board May 29 that extending the contract
with ATS for another year would be the best option. The board had considered seeking bids for an ambulance service for the coming year. However, O’Connor said the bid process for that service takes at least 6 months.
Instead, he recommended amending the present contract with ATS to extend it for an additional year to give the board enough time to seek bids for its own service. The fire board hired ATS, based in Loves Park, on July 1
after the Oregon Ambulance Service, a nonprofit private corporation, unexpectedly closed its doors on June 17 for financial reasons, leaving Oregon area residents without an ambulance service. AMBULANCE CONTINUED ON A4

Rock Falls is ready for state to float it a loan BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570 @pam_eggemeier
ROCK FALLS – The city council approved a resolution Tuesday that will allow Rock Falls to take out a lowinterest loan of up to $1.2 million from a state agency to undertake a water well project. The loan would be made through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Public Water Supply Loan Program. The estimated price tag on the project is only $612,000, but a cushion is built into the resolution because the bidding process hasn’t yet started. A second resolution will be drawn up when the bids are received and the exact cost is determined. ROCK FALLS CONTINUED ON A4

BLACK HAWK STATUE
He’s ready to come out of his cocoon With winter behind us, there’s work in front of conservators BY VINDE WELLS vwells@shawmedia.com Shaw Media
OREGON – Although work has not yet begun on site, behind-the-scenes preparations to repair the Black Hawk statue are underway.
Project conservator Dr. Andrzej Dajnowski, from Conservation of Sculpture & Objects Studio, in Forest Park, said Tuesday that he and his crew had been testing various repair mixtures to make sure the blend to fill the cracks would match the statue. “We’re working on it all the time,” he said. “We’re testing the injection material. That’s very important.” BLACK HAWK CONTINUED ON A2
