DIXON – Dixon is days away from having daily bus service to Chicago, Davenport, Iowa,

ROCK FALLS – The Rock Island Economic Growth Corp. is working with the city’s economic development group on a mixed-use riverfront project. The venture is planned for the south side of East Second Street, across the street from the new hotel and planned green space. It is the former site of the Reliant building, of which only a large concrete slab and basement remain. Rock Falls Community Development Corp. Director Randy Balk said the Reliant project was in the predevelopment stage. It is planned on two lots. The first lot, slightly more than 1 acre, is the former manufacturing site. The other, about 1.3 acres, is the parking area directly behind the slab and surrounding space. Brian Hollenback, executive director of the Rock Island organization also known as GROWTH, doubles as president of Renaissance Rock Island. Hollenback spoke at the RFCDC annual meeting Thursday at the Rock Falls Public Library. The development groups are not yet revealing specifics of the project or who the private investors are.

Trio makes emotional trip from Anchorage to Amboy BY CHRISTI WARREN cwarren@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5521 @SeaWarren
AMBOY – Codey Fredenhagen was nervous. It was nearly 7 a.m. May 3, and he had just arrived in Anchorage the night before. Now here he was, waking up and getting ready to leave again on a road trip with his dad, Jim. That road trip would take the two from Anchorage to Amboy over the course of 14 days. That’s 3,812 miles, and they were going to do it all in a 1930 Model A Ford that Jim, 68, fixed up

for the trip. Top speed: 65 mph. But they usually go 50. But back to the part about Codey being nervous. So, he walked up to the car, and Jim had it packed to the gills with tools and spare parts. And Jim’s bag was in there, too, and he’d packed light. Real light. Codey thought he’d packed light, too. He’d made a trip like this before, after all. He’s 44 now, but back when he was 19, he rode his bike, solo, from his dad’s home in Anchorage all the way down to Denver, where he lives now. MODEL A CONTINUED ON A4
