DIXON – A manufacturing site left empty with the departure of Anchor Coupling from Illinois has been sold.

The Caterpillar subsidiary that makes hydraulic hose parts announced on June 6, 2014, its plans to consolidate the operations of its Dixon plant and two Sterling sites. The local plants were closed and manufacturing moved to the subsidiary’s corporate headquarters

in Menominee, Michigan, costing the Sauk Valley 170 full-time jobs. Anchor Coupling added about 120 jobs at the Menominee manufacturing facility. The Dixon site at 1100 Anchor Road has been sold, but the transaction hasn’t yet been finalized. The nearly 35,000-square-foot building, built in 1969, is on about 21 acres of land. DIXON – Though not hit as hard as other local taxing bodies to rectify a $168 million error made by the state, the Dixon Park District will lose about $28,000 in planned revenue. Hundreds of local taxing districts that received disbursements from a personal property tax replacement fund in 2014 and 2015 will have to foot the bill for the miscalculation made by the Illinois Department of Revenue, which the department announced last week. Just as district executive director Debra Carey received about $14,000 from the personal property tax replacement this month, it was quickly returned to sender.

ROCK FALLS – Fireworks have been added to the city’s already jam-packed entertainment lineup the weekend of June 25-26. The Bass Pro Shops Big Cat Quest fishing tournament will make its debut in Rock Falls this summer, alongside the chamber’s Summer Splash events and River Chase boat races. The fishing tournament was reeled into town by Rock Falls Tourism, and announced in December. The local tourney is the Midwest qualifier for the 2016 national championship in Richmond, Virginia. Tourism received the OK from the City Council on Monday to spend $6,000 on a fireworks display that will begin at about 9 p.m. June 25. The fireworks will be provided by J&M Displays of Yarmouth, Iowa. “We think this is a nice way to say thank you for coming to these events,” Alderman Daehle Reitzel said. SPARKS CONTINUED ON A4
