POLO – The Polo Park Board believes in second chances. A woman who embezzled nearly $60,000 over 4 years from First State Bank Shannon-Polo,

Despite that, the Polo Park Board – Chairman Larry Loomis, Shelley Bolens, Sydney Frano, Ben Katner, Jamie Gorzny, Mark Scholl and Tom Suits – voted 6-1 on March 23 to recommend the City Council rehire her, Loomis said Thursday. DIXON – One of two brothers charged in the 1983 murder of a Peoria man will be the first of three people to be tried, a judge decided at a hearing Thursday in Lee County Court. Terry E. Bobell, 69, of Chillicothe, will go to trial Aug. 22. He was the last person to be freed after posting bond, which was cut from $1 million to $100,000 on Feb. 3 and posted the same day. Bobell, his brother, Gordon K. Bobell, 66, also of Chillicothe, and Steven Watts, 58, of Berryville, Arkansas, formerly of Peoria, are charged in the Aug. 28, 1983, death of 30-yearold Gary D. Dawson, whose body was found the next day in a Franklin Grove hog pen. Dawson died from trauma caused by severe beating and suffocation. The autopsy showed that he was beaten by more than one person, that his wrists, arms, mouth and nose had been taped, and that he Terry had been stabbed 14 times in the Bobell back of the head. It is not known where he was killed or why his body was taken to Lee County. Each man is charged with five counts of first-degree murder, which is punishable by 4 to 100 years, or life in prison. Each charge contains separate elements of the crime that must be proven: that whoever beat Dawson did so with intent to do great bodily harm; while knowing there was a strong probability of death or injury; while also attempting to kidnap him; while also committing unlawful restraint; or while also committing aggravated battery. Each man can be convicted of only one charge.
Antique show in Oregon

OREGON – The Oregon Woman’s Club’s 66th annual antique show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Blackhawk Center, 1101 Jefferson St. The show features antiques from the early 1800s through the 1950s. Heirloom repair will be available both days, and paid appraisals will be available for $5 per item from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6, which is good for both days.
