Bobell. indicted Friday in the beating death of 30-year-old Gary D. Dawson of Peoria. Each of the five charges features separate elements of the crime that must be proven:
that whoever beat Dawson did so with intent to do great bodily harm; while knowing there was a strong probability of death or injury; while also attempting to kidnap him;
while also committing unlawful restraint; or while also committing aggravated battery. Each man can be convicted only of one charge. It will be up to a jury to decide which one, if any, apply. All are Class M felonies, which means they are punishable by 4 to 100 years, or life in prison.

DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College has found a man with experience to lead its new Small Business Development Center. David Buchen, 67, has been the grant coordinator at Rock Valley College in Rockford for 5 years. He also spent 3 years as director of New Mexico’s Mesalands Community College Small Business Development Center, and 3 years as director of the Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Wisconsin on Whitewater. “He has a strong background in small business development,” said Steve Nunez, Sauk’s dean of institutional marketing and research. “He also has an exceptional ability to see things outside the box. We were enthralled with his capabilities.” Buchen’s title will be executive director.
