ROCK FALLS | RIVERFRONT REDEVELOPMENT
No concrete plans for now End of partnership puts plans for riverfront slab in limbo BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570 @pam_eggemeier
ROCK FALLS – The termination of the funding agreement between the city and its local economic development group has put the brakes on a planned riverfront project on East Second Street.
In 2015, the group had focused its attention on the proposed mixed-use project in the Reliant Fastener slab area, across the street from the new hotel and planned green space project. The Rock Falls City Council officially ended its financial commitment to the Rock Falls Community Development Corp. by approving a resolution to termi-
nate the agreement at Tuesday’s meeting. Since it was founded in 2002, the development group had received $100,000 a year from the city for its operating expenses. In addition, the clock ran out this week on another agreement that would have put the land needed for the project in the development group’s possession.
Randy Balk, executive director of the RFCDC, said that given its uncertain future, the organization did not exercise its option to buy the land that was owned by the city’s Industrial Development Commission. The option to purchase the land for $50,000, extended in May, expired Tuesday. CONCRETE CONTINUED ON A5
