Success in and out of the classroom for class of 17 By Zach Arbogast zarbogast@oglecounty news.com Teary eyes, proud parents, cheering families, and Marco pride all stuffed the gym at Polo High School to bursting on Sunday afternoon as the senior class of 2017 said “Thank you, and farewell.” After the students marched down the aisle and up the stairs to the main stage, Justine Gorzny and Lauren Rhodes welcomed the class to their commencement, and started what seemed to be a running theme for the ceremony; selfless thanks and pride in others. “We would like to thank the parents, teachers, coaches, friends, and family for helping us get to where we are now. We would not have been able to do it without you,” said Rhodes. Valedictorian Christopher Rademacher spent his entire speech paying credit to the class and the school, expressing pride in Mason Wright’s state championship triple jump victory, the more than 500 college credit hours among Polo seniors, the efforts of the Polo teachers in reaching their students

track, and band for four years, as well as a member of Varsity Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and was a 2017 Illinois State Scholar. Principal Andy Faivre called Rademacher “One of PCHS’ most decorated students academically of all time.” It was Aplington secretary

Marla Buskohl’s turn to address the class, and she reminded them that in communities like Polo, graduating seniors have often spent more than four years together. “I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many of you since you were sixth graders Polo High School Valedictorian Christopher Rademacher at Aplington,” Buskohl said comes forward to receive his diploma.
