City thanks Plano woman who saved toddler from pond By LYLE R. ROLFE news@kendallcountynow.com Heather Adamcyk, 27, was not working the morning of Sept. 2, because she had been laid off from her job. And because she was sitting in her yard that morning, a 2-yearold neighborhood boy is alive today. Adamcyk said she was in the yard in the 3200 block of Veronica Street in the Lakewood subdivision when she heard a woman pleading for help. “I saw her running around the yard frantically yelling something. I went over to see if she was OK and that’s when I found out what happened,” she said.

It was a neighbor, who said her twin boys got out of the house and she could not find them. Adamcyk said she and the neighbor began looking for them. They went to a retention pond behind their homes and saw one of the boys standing on the shore. The other boy was floating in the water several feet from shore, she said. “We waded into the lake, which was thick with mud. “The mother got to him before I did and she handed him to me. He did not appear to be breathing, so I waded out of the water and laid him down on the shore. I began giving him CPR and he started breathing.
