Same garbage, different trucks Republic Services will replace Illinois Valley Waste

BY DAVE COOK news@putnamcountyrecord.com HENNEPIN — The trash will still be put out at the curb as usual, but instead of Illinois Valley Waste trucks picking it up, Hennepin residents will soon see the blue garbage trucks of Republic Services on village streets. During the Dec. 20 Hennepin Village Board meeting, Republic Services representative Jim Posey spoke of the upcoming change and also offered some potential improvements to the village’s waste management services. “Republic has acquired Illinois Valley Waste, but everything will stay the same in regards to service for the residents,” Posey said. Posey said that unless the village wanted to reopen its service contract, its current waste management structure would remain the same. While requiring a new contract, he offered the village some upgraded service options if the board was interested, including a change to 95-gallon waste carts and the addition of regular bulk item pickups to replace yearly spring cleanup periods. He also requested if it would be possible to provide a single bulk bill to the village and then have the individual charges be added to residents’ water bills. Hennepin Village President Kevin Coleman replied it wouldn’t be possible because the structure of the water district wouldn’t allow it.

Village trustee Matt Dean announced he’ll be resigning from the board at the end of January because he’ll be moving to a new home outside the village limits. Coleman thanked him for his many years of service to the village.
‘Hennepin Speedway’ While recent improvements have undoubtedly made driving on High Street a smooth and pleasurable experience, the board discussed the significant increase in complaints of highspeed driving on the residential street, especially during the morning school rush. “It’s not the Hennepin Speedway out there,” a board member said. Residents be warned, increased patrols along High Street are likely to occur in order to curb would-be speedsters, and the digital speed sign monitor will also be returning.

The board approved the new state-mandated sexual harassment ordinance. The board also approved an amendment to the village’s code pertaining to junk, garbage and debris in order to address a number of unused or abandoned watercraft seen throughout the village.
