A JUMP SHOT TOWARD VICTORY Molly Boyd’s jump shot helped the Putnam County High School girls basketball team secure a nice win over Henry on Dec. 7. The Panthers scored 50 points to Henry’s 16 in a high-energy and fun-to-watch game. The next PCHS girls basketball game will be on Dec. 14 at Roanoke Benson. (PCR photo/Dave Cook)

HENNEPIN — The Putnam County Board’s last meeting of 2017 was just about standing room only as the board heard year-end reviews, as well as the plans for 2018 and beyond. Putnam County Conservation District (PCCD) trustees Will Duke and Dan Kotecki joined chairman Jon Crist to speak to the board during the Dec. 11 meeting to see whether they needed the county’s permission to cash-rent two parcels of roughly 15 acres each. “This isn’t pristine prairie. It’s been farmed before, and it’s just weeds now,” Crist said. The PCCD hopes to initially rent out the areas for an estimated period of a few years and set the profits aside in a separate fund to be used for an as-ofyet undetermined future development project. Putnam County Board member Luke Holly asked whether perhaps the land could be of interest to the federal Conservation Reserve Program or a group like Pheasants Forever. Crist said the PCCD hadn’t yet come to a decision as to how they’d rent the land, but that they were speaking to the board to see whether they would need county approval before signing any agreements. The board tabled the decision and is waiting for Putnam County State’s Attorney Christina Judd-Mennie to research the issue. Board members will also be looking into whether or not the county would be required to write and approve the contract.
Property tax pre-pay County Treasurer Kevin Kunkel announced residents now have the option to pre-pay their property taxes.
