Potholes versus progress Timberline Drive residents and township agree to take a small step forward BY DAVE COOK news@putnamcountyrecord.com GRANVILLE — For the time being, Timberline Drive will remain as it has, a potholed road for which no group will claim ownership. Passed like a hot potato between Putnam County officials, Granville Township officials and the road’s residents, the issue of the state of the road has resulted in little more than resentment and anger. That frustration was on public display at the Granville Township board meeting on Sept. 26 as residents, a Putnam County board member and the Granville Township board clashed over the road’s fate. The subdivision’s developers, who the township says are now deceased, failed to construct the road to the proper standards which would allow them to collect Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds from the state. “I guess the easiest way to explain it to you people is that the township budget is made up to take care of township roads and bridges. Timberline is not considered part of Granville Township,” Jim Moriarty, Granville Township supervisor, said as the meeting began. In the past, the township has been providing minor work to the road as a goodwill gesture. A resident said she’d spoken to Tammy Mehalic, Putnam County supervisor of assessments, and said she was told Timberline Drive was a public road because they hadn’t been assessed for it. “No, it’s not. It’s never been accepted. She is wrong and she doesn’t know what she’s talking about,” John Grivetti, Granville Township attorney, said. The Putnam County Record contacted Mehalic, who said the homeowner’s deeds will legally describe the property they own.
