GRANVILLE — Putnam County Rotary’s 2020 Agri-Business Night will be held Thursday, March 26, at the Putnam County High School in Granville. The annual event honors area farmers and ag-related businesses during National Agriculture Week, bringing community members together for dinner and a program featuring topics of importance to local agriculture. This year’s program topic is “Hemp: An Economic Opportunity?” featuring Drew Schlumpf, director of hemp procurement at Marquis Extraction Technology, a part of Marquis Energy. Schlumpf is a graduate of Bureau Valley High School and the University of Illinois. Following graduation, he worked for the U of I and BP as an agronomist, experimenting with alternative feedstocks and plants to create new sources for liquid fuel. He then moved into large-scale farming, and eventually returned to his home area as local territory manager for Pioneer Hi-Bred.
With his transition seven years later to Marquis, Schlumpf is at the cutting edge of a new industry that will likely have a major impact on the local economy and the future of hemp production, CBD Drew Schlumpf oil extraction and more — a “fast-growing” industry of which we know very little, but can learn a lot by attending this year’s Ag-Night event on March 26 at Putnam County High School. Doors will open at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 each, open to the public. GRANVILLE — “The Addams Family,” a new musical, with book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and music by Andrew Lippa, will be presented by Putnam County High School on Thursday, March 19, Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21. “The Addams Family” embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story and it’s every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family — a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Performances will be in the Putnam County High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

Winter garage sale PRINCETON — The huge winter garage sale will return to the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton on Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, March 15. Doors will open at 8 a.m. both days, with free admission. A donation of canned food for the local food pantry will be accepted at the door. Those interested in selling items can call 815-303-2905 after 3 p.m. for information. A 10-by-10foot space with three 8-foot tables for the two days would be $45.

3. The student is planning to attend a school that awards college credit or a certificate of advanced learning. The first scholarship of $1500 was awarded in 2008 and since 2012 additional scholarships of $1000 have been awarded. Over the past 12 years 25 deserving students have received a total of $30,500.
