Introducing Theodore Thomas Kedley Osceola’s ‘First’ Baby By HILARY FERRAND

He may not have been the first baby born in the new year, but tiny Teddy Kedley is already “first” in a few special ways. The first child of Mayor
Thomas and Becca Kedley, Theodore Thomas Kedley, was born Friday, December 23 at 8:44 a.m. The baby, who weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces, was delivered by Dr. Christopher Johnson at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The baby’s grandparents are
Brian and Kathy Evans of Osceola, Joseph Kedley of Clinton, and Barbara Miller of Fulton, Ill. Mayor Kedley works for the city of Osceola and Clarke Community School District. Mrs. Kedley works for Clarke Community School District. “Becoming a mother has been an incredible journey,” said the new mom. “I could not read enough articles or pin enough on Pinterest to prepare me for the adventure that is bringing a baby into this world.” Mrs. Kedley was due January 1 but went into labor early. Thankfully, both she and the baby are happy, healthy and thriving. “Most mothers could tell you that labor isn’t a walk in the park, but all the pain is quickly forgotten as soon as that small bundle of joy is placed on your chest – I didn’t believe this at first, but it is true,” she said. In the weeks leading up to their baby’s birth, the Kedleys decorated their nursery in a neutral palette of grays, whites and creams, with elements inspired by Dr. Seuss. They didn’t find out beforehand whether their child

was a boy or a girl. The new parents wanted to keep it a surprise. “My favorite president is Teddy Roosevelt, but we were kind of unsure if we were going to name him Theodore or not,” said Mayor Kedley. Once the couple realized Dr. Seuss was also named Theodore, the name seemed fated for their son. The Mayor was fortunate
enough to get two weeks of paternity leave to bond with the new baby, and it’s been as filled with the practical concerns of caring for a newborn – the nursing, the diapers, creating routines – as it has the shock that comes with welcoming a new life into the world. “I never thought my heart could grow any fuller than it was, but then I heard his first cry and saw my hus-

band holding our child; my heart grew,” said Mrs. Kedley. “Thomas and I are grateful and lucky for the strong support system we have in our family, friends, and colleagues.” “Becoming a parent was one of the most joyful and fearful moments of my life,” the new father said. “I am so excited to become a father and to watch my child grow and learn.”

Karen Johnson currently hails from Grand River, but her paintings have traveled around the world. The artist, chosen for the January and February installations at the Clarke County Art Council’s exhibit at Lakeside Casino & Hotel, has spent the last 43 years painting in a multitude of media and styles. “When I started, I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t draw. I didn’t know anything about art,” said Johnson. “I just knew I wanted to make it.” Along with exhibiting with CCAC, Johnson intends on teaching painting Pictured is Karen Johnson’s Casino. classes. “I am a firm believer that Johnson’s broad range of anyone can paint if they subjects and mastery of difwant to. Then, I just stand back, look and see what I see, and go from there.” It’s a more therapeutic art form than other styles, certainly, but Johnson has found it helpful in all forms of her work. “If I get into a paint block, that’s a good way to unblock it. You can just let everything come out,” she said, though sometimes, she notes, you let too much out and wind up with a mess. “It takes a lot of space to paint, if you really want to get into it,” said Johnson. “You do have to be cautious where you’re at.” Earlier in her career,

A local business owner is now facing multiple felony charges. Wilfred Walter Reisinger, 61, 1613 Truro Pavement, was charged with five counts of identity theft involving losses over $1,000 and under $10,000. Given the amounts involved, each count is a class D felony. According to an Osceola Police report, Reisinger, owner of Anchor Motors in Osceola, knowingly used a previous employee’s Ford identification number to make fraudulent claims of warranty work to Ford Motor Company. Osceola Police Chief Marty Duffus said the charges are being pursued by the Iowa Department of Transportation. It isn’t known whether Ford will follow up with its own complaints. If convicted, Reisinger faces up to 5 years in prison and $7,500 in fines per charge. “If Mr. Reisinger is convicted of these charges he would be subject to pro-

In 2000, Reisinger was charged with prostitution. Court records show a judge dismissed those charges without prejudice as part of a plea deal. In 2003, he was charged with third-degree harassment. A protection order was filed against him from March 2003 to September 2003, though court records show it was set aside after a jury found him not guilty. Anchor Motors has had its own troubles, as well. A file at the Iowa Attorney General’s office contains 31 complaints spanning from April 2016 back to the late ‘90s.

Reisinger was back at work after the holiday weekend. “It will all get worked out in court,” Reisinger said.
