NachusaGrasslandsisa4,000-acrepreserve consistingoflargeremnantprairie,woodlands andwetlandsbeingreconnectedthroughhabitatrestoration,accordingtotheconservancy’s website.Itcreates“oneofthelargestandmost biologicallydiversegrasslandsinIllinois.”
“Frequently,thebisonwereverycloseby andpeoplewerevisiblyexcitedtoseethemup close,”hesaid.“Wealsohadhikingtoursevery half-hourand mostofthosewerefullall day long,too.”

Lindafoundanarticledoneby AndyMillsin1997onthisold cemetery longforgotten.TheOgleCounty OldCemeteryPreservationCommitteealongwithRussellPooledecidedit wastimetoreclaimthistangledmess onsection23inEaglePointTownship. Iamnotcertainhowtheyevengotto it.PerhapsoverapathstillpartofWilson’sMillRoadofyearsago.

EaglePointTownshipfundedthe reconstructionoftheWebsterCemetery.Whiletheoldstonesthatmarked theoldplotsprobablywerescattered aroundthehillside,theywereplaced inanorderlyfashion.
TheNicholsfamilycametothis area in 1836 with John Waterbury and thegroupwascalledtheDelawareColony.TheycametoruntheUndergroundRailroad.JohnWaterburywas partofourfamilyandIhaveabig binderofallthepeoplewhotookpart inthathistoricalevent.
Oneofthoseburialplots wasthe restingspotforEdwardB.Webster whowasaPvt.InCo.D35ILInfantry oftheCivilWar.

Theclubwasorganizedin1922and joinedtheGeneralFederationofWom an’sClubsin1924.Theclubwasthe successortotheOregonWoman’s Council.Thepurpose ofthe organizationhasalwaysbeentobeaservice organizationcontributingtothegood ofthecommunity.
Since1951,theannualantiqueshow hasbeenamajorfundraiserforthe club.Theshowwasoriginallycalled theOregonAntiqueandHobbyShow.

BecauseoftheOWC’searlyinvolvementwiththedevelopmentofMix Parkandtheparkdistrict,theclub arrangedtohaveamemorialplaque placedinMixPark.ThanksgotoAndy Egyedandthestaffattheparkdistrict fortheirhelpinchoosingthe sitefor theplaqueandfortheinstallation.
Geiken,whowaspresidentofthe OWC,inorganizinganumberofinterestedsmallgroupswhodecidedthat theanswerwastoformtheOregon ParkDistrict.TheOWCagreedtobear thecostofanelectiontodecide whethertoorganizetheParkDistrict.
