FOX LAKE OFFICER KILLING

Police ‘getting closer’ to ID’ing person of interest By KATIE DAHLSTROM kdahlstrom@shawmedia.com FOX LAKE – After “significant evidence” was uncovered Friday, authorities believe they may be getting closer to identifying a person of interest in the investigation into the shooting death of Fox Lake Police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz. Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Chris Covelli confirmed Friday night new evidence was found Friday afternoon, but would not disclose any other details about what was found, only that it was found “at the scene” by evidence technicians who have been returning to the scene every day. However, Covelli said authorities have been getting reports from the FBI and other investigators that video being compiled as part of the investigation has shown “some individuals consistent with [Gliniewicz’s] radio transmission.” “We’re getting closer,” Covelli said about possibly identifying a person of interest. “We can’t say that it’s imminent or that it’s going to happen anytime soon. “We’re getting closer to identifying someone we’re interested in talking to.” Police previously announced they had obtained a video from a resident’s home surveillance system that had to be turned over to Homeland Security, but Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Cmdr. George Filenko said during a news conference Friday afternoon that video was no longer considered their most valuable piece of evidence in the search for people they believe killed Gliniewicz. “Now we’ve acquired several more videos that we believe are even more relevant than that one,” Filenko said. The videos came overnight from several sources, including the Lake County Division of Transportation. Filenko said transportation officials had the foresight to preserve video from one of their intersection cameras. Agents from FBI’s Chicago field office are going to piece those videos together in chronological order, Filenko said. Filenko wouldn’t comment on their content, but said there is a “commonality” among them. While police gather and review evidence, Motorola Solutions has offered a $50,000 reward

A growing collection of video evidence, a large and growing reward and a dedicated FBI tip line are the latest tools investigators have available in their search for three suspects alleged to have shot and killed Fox Lake Police Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz.

It just needs to stop. Innocent people getting killed over nothing. They’re here to help us. They’re here to protect us.
