Pipeline 78% complete in Jasper County By Mike Mendenhall Newton Daily News A construction progress report filed Thursday with the Iowa Utilities Board by Dakota Access, LLC shows the company’s crude oil pipeline is more than two-thirds in the ground in Jasper County. Construction on the $3.8 billion, 1,168-mile pipeline has been happening at a rapid pace in Jasper County since workers first broke ground in June. According to the document, as of Oct. 23 workers have lowered and backfilled approximately 78 percent of the pipeline in Jasper County. Statewide, 79 percent of the pipeline is in the ground and covered. The pipeline— developed by Dakota Access and Dallas-based parent company Energy Transfer Partners — is being constructed through four states and 18 Iowa counties. It will connect the Bakken Oil Fields of North Dakota to a hub in Patoka, Ill. en route to gulf coast refineries. Pipeline construction is divided into four geographic regions or “spreads” in Iowa. The committee simply needed more time to organize a different kind of art weekend. That weekend is set for Nov. 5-6, when artists from all across the Midwest will converge on Newton. terstate 80, with 18.4 miles of Jasper County’s pipe going through the northwestern Spread 2 and 16 miles going through southeastern Spread 3. In Jasper County from Interstate 80 to the southeastern border, 60 percent of the pipeline is lowered into the ground and backfilled. Handicapped Parking Due to recent construction of a new building at the Newton Church of the Way, spaces are being modified on the north side of South Third Avenue East. Two parallel handicapped parking spaces will become six diagonal handicapped parking spaces as a part of the church project. Pipeline Breakdown in Jasper County
Barbara Grassley to visit local GOP Friday Barbara Grassley will be campaigning in Newton Friday on behalf of her husband, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley. Grassley will visit with Jasper County Republicans and will focus on voter turnout and the importance of voting. The event will begin at 2 p.m. at BridgeGrassley house Coffee, 111 W. Second St. N. The Grassleys are criss-crossing the state in an effort to get out the vote for Grassley and the Republican Party.
tre for Art and Artists — and the focus will be much more on the educational component of art. “The public is going to get to see art being made and see it at various stages,” said Linda Klepinger, the Centre’s director and the president of the festival. “It’s one thing to hear the public say they appreciate how many hours go into a particular piece. But seeing it done in front of you — seeing the process and understanding all the steps and the skill level needed — that will really raise the appreciation for the works.” Klepinger said the 16 participating artists are engaging personalities who will draw in the public to their process. She said she looks forward to having Iowans see the works created and displayed in an art center, as the Centre is home to many regular classes and other visual-arts activities.
