injured and a Newton man was jailed after a task-force operation resulted in a chase and a vehicle collision Monday night. At about 9:25 p.m., members of the Mid-Iowa East Narcotics Task Force were conducting a narcotics investigation and attempting

to apprehend Chad E. Coady, 25, of Newton on a parole violation in the parking lot of the Perkins restaurant near Interstate 80. During the apprehension, a vehicle collision occurred and a law enforcement officer was injured. The officer was airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital for treatment. Coady was arrested and taken to Jasper County Jail

Travis Padget was chosen as the board president, while Robyn Friedman was selected by the board as vice president for the next 12 months. Mike Mendehall/Daily News Fire crews battle a house fire Monday afternoon at 316 S. Lincoln St. in Colfax. Fire officials on the scene said one man was transported to Skiff Medical Center in Newton for injuries resulting from the fire, and the house is a total loss.

By Mike Mendenhall Newton Daily News COLFAX — One person was reportedly injured Monday when a house caught fire at 316 S. Lincoln St. in Colfax. Witnesses and neighbors said the victim is 35-year-old Scott Nestvedt, of Colfax. According to Colfax Fire Department Captain JD Smith, no one else was in the home at the time of the blaze, and the victim had already left

the scene for a neighbor’s house by the time fire and rescue crews arrived on scene at approximately 2:20 p.m. First responders on scene said Nestvedt was transported to Skiff Medical Center in Newton. His condition was not available at presstime Tuesday, but one witness claimed he saw a male with cuts and burns leave the house shortly after the fire began. According to Colfax city staff, the house was thought to be va-

cant and neighbors told investigators they’ve recently witnessed people sleeping in a vehicle(s) parked in the home’s backyard. The home’s owner, Michael Nestvedt, was not present at the time of the fire. Smith said the house was fully engulfed when crews arrived on scene. Traveling Vietnam wall passing through Newton Wall to be set up in Urbandale By Jason W. Brooks Newton Daily News

The truck carrying the wall is set to arrive at Iowa Speedway at about 9 a.m., with a motorcade along Rusty Wallace Drive and west on Interstate 80 set to begin at about 10:15 a.m.

Jasper County residents won’t have a traveling Vietnam Veterans memorial wall set up in town this week, but they’ll have the chance to see it pass through town. The traveling wall known as The Wall That Heals is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall in Washington D.C. The replica is heading from Indiana to

can flags. The Wall That Heals is scheduled to be set up on the Living History Farms front lawn Wednesday through early Sunday afternoon. There are plans to bring a Vietnam veterans wall of this type to Jasper County within the next 12 to 15 months. The last time The Wall That Heals stopped in Newton, in May 2013, a warm day for the set-up was followed by a latespring snowstorm that affected how many residents came out to see it at Maytag Park. Living History Farms in Urbandale and will pass through Jasper County along Interstate 80 on Wednesday morning. An organization called Team Welcome Home is organizing a motorcycle escort to bring the wall’s 18-wheeler from Jasper County to Urbandale. Riders will meet at Iowa Speedway at 9 a.m. and must sign a waiver of responsibility.
