‘American Pickers’ TV show seeking leads for taping in Newton By Jessica Lowe Special to Daily News One of cable’s rustiest, dustiest and unique shows is looking for potential places to film in Newton and Jasper County. History Channel’s “American Pickers” has announced it is searching for leads on locations for filming. Producers with the popular show contacted Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce Director Craig Light earlier this month about seeking assistance to find potential filming locations in Newton. “I was very happy to hear from ‘American Pickers’ because it would be great national exposure for our community if we could be on TV,” Light said.

Filmed all over the U.S., “American Pickers” follows Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz from Antique Archeology as they work to find hidden gems from old barns, forgotten garages, estates and other collectors. The items are “picked” then sold in their stores located in LeClaire, Iowa, and Nashville, Tenn., or to private buyers. If leads are developed, filming could take place in Jasper County beginning in July. Cineflix Productions has released a list of various items the duo are looking for including vintage automotive items, early firefighting equipment, pre-1950s Western gear, sports memorabilia, old advertising

A Newton teen is charged with third-degree sexual abuse after being accused of forcing oral sex on a 16-year-old victim. Colin C. Hansen, 19, was arrested Monday after officers spoke with him about the incident. According to the police report, the victim said Hansen messaged her on FaceHansen book to meet at the Homedahl Park in Kellogg. Upon meeting, she said Hansen grabbed her arm and forced her into his car. Once in the car, Hansen allegedly asked for the victim to perform oral sex on him. She refused and Hansen then grabbed her head and forced her to perform the act, according to the report. The victim also described the a white T-shirt that Hansen used following the alleged sex abuse. When officers spoke with Hansen, he allegedly denied being at the park and said the victim had messaged him on Facebook and they made plans to meet and he never showed up. When officers found a wrinkled-up white T-shirt in the back of Hansen’s vehicle, he refused to speak any further with law enforcement. Hansen was taken to the Jasper County Jail where he posted a $3,000 bond and was released Tuesday. The case remains under investigation. Contact Jamee A. Newton Airport Drones becoming a part of considering commerce, but not quickly name change By Jamee A. Pierson Newton Daily News The Newton City Council will consider a potential name change for the Newton Municipal Airport at its Monday meeting. The change would add Earl Johnson Field to the title. President of Johnson Aviation, Inc. Ethan Nasalroad and the manager at the airport have written a letter requesting the name change. Earl Johnson created Johnson Aviation in 1949 and drove change and growth in general aviation. As a businessman in the emerging industry, he was charged early on with growing and devel-

oping high standards for aviation in central Iowa. As an aircraft dealer, carter pilot, corporate pilot, airport manager, flight instructor and pilot examiner, Johnson set extremely high standards for safety and quality. Johnson was one of six men in the Iowa Transportation Museum’s 2015 Hall of Fame induction class. The council will also discuss a second consideration to increase sanitary sewer rates by five percent. The last increase in rates was in 2012 and since then, operation costs have increased due to inflation. COUNCIL | 10A

Many conversations about drones go in a negative direction, often with a quip about invasion of privacy, government spying on citizens and the likelihood a discovered drone would be taken out of the air — forcefully or accidentally. However, there are many more uses for drones beyond military combat or intelligence missions. Not only have drones made their way into the hands of hobbyists, media organizations, freelance journalists and marketing firms, but also into commerce. In 2013, Amazon announced
