Local cancer survivors, loved ones and supporters gathered for a night of celebration and remembrance at the 18th annual Jasper County Relay for Life Saturday evening at H.A. Lynn Stadium. The American Cancer Society fundraiser drew in people of all ages with food, music and a silent auction. There were also bounce houses, games, crafts, snow cones and face paint which drew in families. “I came with my stepmom (Samantha Jut-
ting), and I just came to have fun,” Newton student Landon Jutting said. “I’m glad I did.” Relay teams organized and began walking, and then the event kicked off at 5 p.m. with master of ceremonies Marshall Critchfield, a prayer by the Rev. Ken Van Loon and the national anthem sung by Mackenzie Quick. Jasper County Area Emergency Responders led the annual Survivors Walk which recognized those who have been diagnosed with cancer and are still alive. RELAY | 3A
