Grant application to be presented at Monday’s board meeting Draft was presented at May 18 meeting By Jason W. Brooks Newton Daily News Funding for public education seems to come from millions of different sources. For the Newton Community School District, one of those sources is the Teacher Leadership and Compensation Grant. Newton Schools have a steering committee that is progressively putting together a grant proposal. The massive, complex proposal is due to be submitted by Oct. 16. The grant, which contains about $50 million to be divided among awardees

by a state committee for the first year of implementation, which will be the 2016-17 school year. The scoring announcement will be made in early December. The Teacher Leadership and Compensation system rewards effective teachers with leadership opportunities and higher pay, attracts promising new teachers with competitive starting salaries and more support, and fosters greater collaboration for all teachers to learn from each other. Berg Middle School instructional coach Deborah Rose presented a draft of the proposal at the NCSD board of education’s May 18 meeting. Rose serves on Newton’s GRANT | 3A
