Early morning fire destroys Mingo home By Kate Malott Newton Daily News A fire destroyed a Mingo home early Saturday morning. The Jasper County Sheriff ’s Office received a call at 6:11 a.m. Saturday of a fire located at 107 N. Walnut St. in Mingo. Mingo Fire Department was first on scene. The cause of the fire, which fully engulfed the home, may have been a wood burning stove, MFD Chief Colin Herbold said. The fire remains under investigation. There was one occupant in the home at the time of the fire, owner Evan Archer. Archer was able to exit the house with no injuries. The awards were announced at the association’s awards banquet during the INA 2016 Convention and Trade Show held in Des Moines. Presentations were made to winners of the 2016 Iowa Better Newspaper Contests, which were judged by the New York Press Association. The executive director of the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce has resigned. Craig Light, who has served the role for two years, Light s u b mitted his resignation to the board of directors effective Friday as he plans to move on to other endeavors, according to board chair Frank Buckley. “Craig has worked with many of our local business partners and community agencies over the past couple of years,” Buckley said. “Our entire board appreciates what Craig has done and wish him nothing but the very best in the future.” The search for an executive director will begin this week, Buckley said.
