Next generation taking the reins at Clemon-Maki By Jamee A. Pierson Newton Daily News
Clemon-Maki Insurance Agency is seeing a change in executive leadership as Jeff Maki, Alex Modlin and Darin Eide take the reins from company founders Gary Clemon and Dale Maki. “We sold effective the first of the year and Jeff, Alex and Darin
are the new owners. Gary and I are staying behind to consult and to handle some specific accounts and keep a little continuity,” Dale Maki said. Founded in 1991, Clemon-Maki has grown to be a premier locally-owned, regional full-service insurance provider. It services commercial and residential properties, professionals, commercial
and personal liability and various specialty products. The transition has been in the works for some time, Dale Maki said, with his son Jeff Maki becoming a partner in the business a couple of years ago. Since then, the group has worked towards an “exit” for Clemon and Maki, CLEMON-MAKI | 3A

City addressing southwest corridor uncontrolled intersections By Jamee A. Pierson Newton Daily News
Newton Public Works is expanding its fleet by way of two new trucks and a hydroseeder. City council approved the purchase of a new 1/2-ton crew cab truck, 3/4-ton truck and hydroseeder to be used in various areas of the department totaling more than $67,000 “The Public Works Department has a need to replace two pickups,” city administrator Matt Muckler said. “The pickups are used by employees to travel to job sites, haul tools and materials and pull trailers.” A 1/2-ton crew cab truck was selected for the engineering staff and will replace a 1998 Ford 1/2-ton truck. The 3/4-ton truck will be purchased for the parks division and replace a 1995 Chevrolet 3/4-ton truck that has
significant mechanical problems. Five bids were received from various dealerships. McGrath Dodge in Cedar Rapids had the low bids for both the 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton trucks at $28,850 and $26,950. Additional bids were received from Karl Chevrolet of Ankeny, Bob Brown of Des Moines and Noble in Newton. The trucks will be paid for using water pollution control, road use tax and 2015 bond proceeds. The city is also planning to place the existing 1998 Ford truck on a public surplus online auction with a reserve amount of $100. If the reserve is not met, the pickup will be sold as scrap metal along with the 1995 Chevrolet pickup, which the city is already planning to
