Brian A. Callison, 41, of Newton, was seen by witnesses standing in the street at various locations, yelling and carrying a long knife. Callison was gone each time an officer arrived. Police were called at 5:15 p.m. to an apartment complex at 400 North Second Avenue East in reference to a man breaking things and Callison yelling with something shiny in his hands. Officers arrived and identified Callison walking northbound with a machete attached to his waistline and a hatchet in his hands. Callison was seen by police hitting a utility pole with the hatchet, according to the police report. Police approached Callison was he went to a house at 220 E. Fourth St. N. Callison told police the pole looked like it as going to fall and he was trying to fix it. Police told Callison to remove the machete from his waist, and he refused. Callison reportedly advanced toward an officer on a front porch. Officers took Callison to the ground, and Callison continued to resist arrest. Celebrating Scouts Jasper County area Boy Scout troops come together for ceremony By Jamee A. Pierson Newton Daily News PRAIRIE CITY — Tigers and wolves and bears, oh my! Members of Jasper County area Cub Scout packs gathered as one for an important ceremony for the Webelo 2s on Saturday as they took the final step to becoming Boy Scouts. Troops from Prairie City, Colfax, Mingo, Monroe and Newton met at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City for the Arrow of Light and Bridging ceremony for scout members from packs 344 and 345. This is one of the largest gatherings of scouts in the county many

can remember. “It is great to see this many scouts together,” Scoutmaster Matt Roghan said. The evening started with songs and skits performed by each of the packs. From do-as-I-do and sayas-I-say songs to multiple comical skits, those in attendance, including family and friends, were very entertained. Cubmaster of Pack 345 and Arrow of Light Den Leader Aaron McConeghey then took a moment to talk about the scouts’ decision to remain in the organization. “You have the chance to do something really awesome things,” Mc-

Coneghey said. “Twenty years from now, think about it, do you want to be disappointed by what you didn’t do, or do you want to be happy you stayed in the scouts.” After a brief break, the official ceremonies started. This year, five scouts, called Webelo 2s, were taking the next step in the scouting journey and moving from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. Those honored include Austin Disney from Pack 344, Benjamin Keeney from Pack 345, Blake Owen from Pack 344, Merritt McConeghey from Pack 345 and Thomas Stadelmann from Pack 345. SCOUTS | 3A
