his past Monday morning marked the start of another school year for Yorkville School District students. The opening of school also marked the re-opening of a newly rebuilt and widened section of Game Farm Road adjoining Yorkville High School, the Yorkville Academy and Yorkville Grade School. The new, threelane road with a center turn lane should help improve traffic flow adjoining the three schools.

Hometown Days, the city of Yorkville’s annual end-of-summer festival, starts Friday, Sept. 4, and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 6, in Beecher Park off Game Farm Road at 908 Game Farm Road. Everyone is invited to attend the fest, which features live music on all three nights, a carnival, food, and a wide variety of family-oriented events and activities. The fest is organized by the city’s Park and Rec Department. Castle Bank serves as the fest’s primary sponsor. Here is an update on the calendar of events: Carnival: The carnival will run from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6. Wristbands allow riders to ride an unlimited amount of times for $20 per rider during the allotted time. Wristbands will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Rush-Copley Family Activities Area: This area is designed to keep children of all ages busy. This year’s area will feature Touch-A-Truck and bounce houses all weekend long. Cool off with a complimentary bottle of water from Jacob’s Well. There will also be a petting zoo available from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. Ultimate Air Dogs Competition : Enjoy a spectacular show of courage and athletics, from dogs

and their owners as they jump off a dock after a Frisbee into a pool of water. Come as a spectator or compete with your own dog. Open jump time is available from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. The competition begins Saturday, Sept. 5, and ends Sunday, Sept. 6. Competitor registration is taken online at the Ultimate Air Dogs website, www. ultimateairdogs.net. All dogs are welcome; they only have to know how to swim.
