Time flies toward the school year

Somehow, we have already blazed through most of the summer, and it is time to get ready for the upcoming school year. Within these pages is an overview of our local school districts, giving you an overview of what you need to know

about your respective school.

Whether you are new to a particular school, new to the district, or just need a refresher on some of the basics, get your start in our back-toschool section.

All about D303 St. Charles School District—which serves the city of St. Charles, as well as portions of West Chicago, South Elgin, Wayne, Campton Hills, Wasco, Elburn, and unincorporated Kane County— is made up of 16 schools, more than 12,500 students, more than 3,100 employees, as well as their families and community supporters.

In other words, St. Charles School District is a broad community focused on ensuring a safe, educational environment for your children.

Wild Rose Elementary School celebrated its’ 50th Anniversary with a full day of celebratory family events on Sat. May 6 on the school property located at 36W730 Red Haw Lane in St. Charles. Wild Rose School opened in the Fall of 1966 and at that time, joined Anderson, Davis, Lincoln, Little Woods, Munhall, Richmond, and Shelby as elementary schools in District 303.

We will provide our students with innovative learning experiences that prepare them for postsecondary careers and higher education. What students learn today will need to be transferred to unknown and uncharted experiences, challenges, and opportunities in the future. Digital learning, college and career readiness skills, and engaging curriculum at all grade levels play a part in preparing our students to contribute and find success in a rapidly changing world.

We are committed to hiring and retaining high quality staff members. The research is clear, the single most impactful influence on student learning and achievement is the quality of the educator designing and

providing the day-to-day learning experiences for students.

When students have access to highly qualified teachers who are passionate about their calling as educators, they benefit from a chance to ask questions, show their creativity, and work collaboratively to solve problems.

We are responsible stewards of the resources in District 303 designated by and for our community. The demographics and student population in our district continue to change over time.

This year, as we consolidate middle schools in an effort to conserve resources, we are also investing in both Thompson and Wredling to create optimal learning environments. On an annual basis, the School Board strives to create and maintain a healthy budget that supports the instructional programs and needs of the community across the District.

As Superintendent of Schools I have the opportunity, on a regular basis, to visit our classrooms and schools. Each time I visit I watch as engaged students learn from supportive educators, in content and resource rich environments, aimed at providing students with a strong educational foundation. It is our goal to ensure that when they walk across the stage at graduation, we have opened the door of opportunity for each one of them, and they are fully prepared for whatever path they choose to take, be it a post-secondary education or a career.

In July, I began my eighth year in District 303, and my first year as Superintendent of Schools. Prior to the beginning of the school year members of the School Board, as well as our administrative team, reviewed the District’s vision statement created by community stakeholders over a decade ago. As we read each of the statements you see here, we concluded that the core beliefs and community values

All about Kaneland http://www.kaneland.org/about/ Mission Statement: “The mission of Kaneland Community Unit School District #302 is to graduate all students college, career, and community ready.”

The district encompasses 140 square miles in southwestern Kane County and is at the western edge of the Fox River Valley. Within its boundaries are all or parts of the incorporated Villages of Aurora, Cortland, Elburn, Kaneville, Maple

Park, Montgomery, North Aurora, Sugar Grove and Virgil.

Also included are two area codes, eleven zip codes, all or part of eight townships and nineteen voter precincts.

The district is governed by a seven-member elected Board of Education. No more than three board members can be from the same township. Board members receive no monetary compensation for their service.

Starting the year at Kaneland The Kaneland Schools will begin the new school year on Wednesday, August 22 with a full day of classes. Full bus service to all schools and full hot lunch service at the Middle School and High School will be provided the first day of school.

All about Batavia 101 Batavia is among the oldest communities in the Fox Valley, having been settled in 1833, a full year before the City of Chicago.

Once considered the fringe of the Chicago metro area, Batavia has matured into one of the premier communities of the western suburbs. Batavia Public School District 101 was founded in 1911 when the east side and west side school districts of Batavia consolidated.
