BATAVIA – A 38-year-old man charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual abuse is due in court Wednesday for a status hearing. Sean Loftis, of the 1300 block of McClurg Drive, Batavia, was charged this month with criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual Sean Loftis abuse, a Class 2 felony, according to Kane County court documents. The documents indicate the alleged crimes happened Oct. 8 to Oct. 9 and involved someone Loftis knows who is younger than 18. His bail was set at $100,000, and records show he was released on $10,000 bond. As conditions of his bond, Loftis cannot have direct or indirect contact or communication with the victim, nor can he be within 150 feet of the victim’s residence, documents show.

The fire occurred at Eifeler Lafer Company, 3800 Commerce Drive, St. Charles. According to its website, the company makes coatings for tools. Firefighters were called to the company after a fire alarm went off at 4:15 a.m., according to a statement from St. Charles Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke in the manufacturing area of the building, prompting officials to upgrade the fire and seek mutual aid from Geneva, Batavia and West Chicago fire departments, according to the statement. An activated sprinkler head kept the fire in check, and it took firefighters an additional half-hour to extinguish the rest of it, according to the statement. The business was closed at the time, and there were no employees or occupants in the building, officials said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire officials said it was not considered suspicious.
