Presidents GREETINGS

For the past 12 years, the Kankakee County Chamber has been a resource for our community. With more than 400 members, we support and enhance Kankakee County’s business climate through networking, advocacy, and educational opportunities. As I have settled into my position as President & CEO over the past two years, the Chamber has grown in more ways than one. First, Courtney Meredith joined our team in March 2024 as our Marketing and Membership Coordinator. She hit the ground running and has been a vital asset to our team. As our Marketing and Membership Coordinator, Courtney onboards all new members, schedules all Ribbon Cuttings and Business Before or After Hours, and strives to stop by and visit all of our members’ offices. Only a few months after Courtney started in her role, we packed up our old office and moved across the street to 249 S. Schuyler Ave. in Downtown Kankakee. Construction took longer than anticipated, and for eight months, our office was closed to the public. Within those months, we hosted a record-breaking Chamber Classic Golf Outing, State of the County Address, Legislative Breakfast, and our Annual Gala, all while building furniture, painting, cleaning, and reinventing our new space. Amber Turner then joined our team in February 2025 as our part-time Member Services Coordinator. Amber is the first person you will see when walking into our new office. She also answers the main phone, updates our members’ accounts, updates our website, and helps out with any membership questions. As our team continues to grow and gain longevity, we hope our members see the passion and value we bring to the community.

The Chamber has 16 dedicated board members and over 50 volunteers spanning our Ambassadors, Women in Networking, Young Professionals Network and a variety of other committees. We value our members and want to make sure their voice is heard. As a member of the Chamber, you are impacting the entire community. By working together, we can grow our economy, create a vibrant workforce, and develop our future leaders. As the President & CEO, I promise to fulfill our mission and honor all of our members.

Sincerely,

Chamber Staff: Amber Turner, Kelsey Post, Courtney Meredith

Chamber celebrates new downtown location

On Thursday, April 10, the Chamber marked an exciting milestone with an all-day Grand Opening and Open House at our brand-new office in downtown Kankakee. We welcomed members, partners, and community leaders throughout the day to tour the new space, enjoy light refreshments, and help us celebrate this exciting next chapter.

Since the inception of the County Chamber, our home has been in the beautiful Executive Center—right in the heart of downtown Kankakee. That space served us well for years, but as we continued to grow and expand our services, it became clear we needed just a little more room. So, we made a short but meaningful move—just across the street— to a new location that offers more flexibility and room to serve our members.

The day was filled with friendly conversations, laughter, and a real sense of community as visitors explored the space and shared in our excitement. From longtime members to brandnew faces, we were honored to connect with so many who make our Chamber strong.

This move reflects our ongoing commitment to providing valuable resources, support, and space to grow—not only for the Chamber but for the entire business community. We’re excited about the possibilities ahead and look forward to using this new office as a hub for connection, collaboration, and progress.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make our Grand Opening a memorable day. We can’t wait to welcome you back!

Hosting a Ribbon Cutting is a great way to celebrate an important milestone at a business! Whether celebrating a grand opening, an anniversary, relocation or new ownership, we would love to help make your event special!

With the help of our dedicated team of Ambassadors and staff, we’re working strategically and intentionally to visit every member’s business throughout the year.

Each quarter, our Ambassadors hit the road for a “blitz” of member visits. These are casual, friendly drop-ins where we show up with smiles and goodie bags filled with treats, resources, and Chamber updates. It’s a great way to connect face-to-face, show appreciation, and see your businesses in action.

But the connection doesn’t stop there. As part of our strategic plan, the Chamber staff is also committed to visiting members

several times each month. These visits allow us to better understand your needs, hear your feedback, and ensure we’re delivering value to you all year long.

Whether it’s a five-minute drop-by or a longer chat, we want you to know—we see you, we support you, and we’re cheering you on.

So don’t be surprised if you see a Chamber car pulling up sometime soon. We’ll be the ones at your door, ready to say hello and celebrate your place in our community.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

At the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce, we are committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive business community where every individual feels valued and respected. Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing this mission by promoting policies and practices that embrace diversity, ensure equity, and cultivate an environment of inclusion within our business district.

The DEI Committee supports the Chamber's dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion by hosting site visits, informational session and panel discussions where attendees can learn more about other business’ DEI efforts.

The Workforce & Education Committee serves as a guiding resource for businesses and professionals, providing insights on workforce trends, new laws and regulations, apprenticeship programs, certifications, and grant-writing opportunities. The committee also explores best practices for creating supportive work environments, promoting mental health in the workplace, and improving employee retention. By sharing information and fostering collaboration, we help businesses and individuals navigate workforce challenges and make informed decisions that support growth and success in Kankakee County.

Shaping the economic future of Kankakee County

Kankakee County is experiencing a powerful wave of economic momentum, and it’s no accident. Strategic leadership, community investment, and a commitment to sustainable growth are helping transform the region into a vibrant hub of opportunity and innovation.

Timothy Nugent, President & CEO of the Economic Alliance of Kankakee County, emphasizes the importance of these developments, during our 2025 State of the County event on March 4 at Olivet Nazarene University.

“We’re building a world-class community,” Nugent stated in a quote from Alliance Board Chair Jeff Bennett, a sentiment echoed throughout the county as progress continues across every sector.

From a strong infrastructure network and dependable utilities to a diverse industrial base and nationally recognized

educational institutions, the building blocks for long-term prosperity are firmly in place. New businesses continue to set up shop, driving job creation and injecting fresh energy into the economy.

“Kankakee County is thriving,” Nugent said. “But as new jobs are created and industries grow, there’s an increasing demand for housing. Right now, our building rates have slowed, and that’s impacting supply and pushing up the cost of living.

We’re actively working on solutions to balance that growth and ensure affordability remains part of our community’s future.”

Proactive initiatives are the key to meeting these challenges and sustaining long-term growth. To further support the region’s economic vitality, the Kankakee County Chamber has launched a new initiative: Coffee & Connections, a bi-

monthly networking series designed to help local professionals and businesses put faces to names, foster collaboration, and build trust.

The goal is simple but powerful: people do business with people they know and trust. By bringing the community together in a casual, approachable setting, Coffee & Connections helps to build the personal and professional relationships that fuel economic growth.

Each Coffee & Connections event features a unique networking theme, offering fresh perspectives and new opportunities to connect every time. Whether we’re focusing on industry spotlights, community collaborations, or professional development, no two sessions are the same. That means you can keep coming back bi-monthly and always walk away with something new— new insights, new connections, and new ways to grow your business.

Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce

Advocating for business with State of Legislation Video Series

At the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce, advocacy is at the heart of everything we do. As a driving force for business growth, the Chamber works tirelessly to ensure that the voices of local businesses are heard at all levels of government. This year, we’re taking our advocacy efforts to a whole new level with the launch of a groundbreaking initiative—the State of Legislation Video Series.

BRINGING LEGISLATORS DIRECTLY TO MEMBERS

The State of Legislation Video Series is designed to keep Kankakee County’s business community informed and engaged with the latest developments in state legislation. Through a series of dynamic and informative videos, local legislators will be able to connect directly with Chamber members to discuss key issues, upcoming legislation, and the impact these developments could have on local businesses.

This initiative is all about accessibility—breaking down barriers between lawmakers and the people they represent. We want to ensure our members are not just informed but are empowered to be active participants in the legislative process.

SPONSORED BY AQUA ILLINOIS

We are proud to partner with Aqua Illinois as the sponsor of the State of Legislation Video Series. Aqua Illinois shares our commitment to fostering a strong and thriving business community, and their support of this project makes it possible for us to bring these valuable conversations directly to our members.

The video series will cover a range of topics, from new business regulations to economic development policies, providing a comprehensive overview of what’s happening in Springfield and how it affects Kankakee County businesses. It’s a timely resource that helps our members stay ahead of the curve on important legislation.

EXCLUSIVE VIP RECEPTION

In addition to the video series, the Chamber is excited to announce an exclusive VIP reception scheduled for August 26 at the Kankakee Country Club. This special event will bring together our top-tier members, sponsors, and local legislators for an intimate evening of networking, discussions, and collaboration.

The VIP reception will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet with key decision-makers, learn more about current legislative priorities, and discuss the most pressing issues facing the business community in Kankakee County. It’s an invaluable chance to build stronger relationships with both lawmakers and fellow business leaders, fostering collaboration that will continue to drive economic success throughout the region.

STRONG VOICE FOR COUNTY BUSINESSES

Through efforts like the State of Legislation Video Series and our ongoing advocacy work, the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to ensuring that the voices of local businesses are heard loud and clear. We understand that in today’s fast-moving world, staying informed and engaged is crucial. This initiative provides a direct line to the legislative process, making it easier than ever for businesses to stay involved and proactive in shaping policies that affect their operations and growth.

Whether you’re a small business owner or a large corporation, the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce is here to support you. Join us in this exciting new chapter of advocacy, as we work together to create a business-friendly environment that continues to make Kankakee County a great place to live, work, and grow.
