DIXON | REAGAN MIDDLE SCHOOL

‘General threat’ found on site Investigation underway; backpacks, bags to be searched today BY JERMAINE PIGEE jpigee@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5525

DIXON – A threatening message found Monday in a Reagan Middle School bathroom prompted a police investigation and an automatic call to parents from Superintendent Michael Juenger.

“We do not believe the threat is credible, but we are taking precautions to ensure everyone’s safety as we continue to investigate this,” Police Chief Danny Langloss said Monday afternoon. That means there will be an increased police presence today, and students will have their bags checked

as they enter the school, Langloss said. He declined to say what the message read, when it was written, or if it was found in a boys or a girls restroom, citing the investigation, which is being conducted with school district officials. THREAT CONTINUED ON A4

STERLING – A Sterling man shot five times Saturday night still was in fair condition at CGH Medical Center on Monday afternoon. Sterling Police say Bryant Cotton, 35, was shot in the torso, arms, and legs following an argument with Alfred G. Lee, 41, at 503 Ave. B. The argument happened less than a block from where the shooting occurred, Sgt. Alex Chavira said. Police received calls about shots being fired at 10:42 p.m., and responded to the area of West Sixth Street and Avenue B. While they were en route, though, Cotton was making his way to the Citgo gas station a block away, at 602 Locust St. Amid the flurry of calls from people reporting a shooting, the gas station attendant, too, called police to report a man who showed up bleeding from gunshot wounds. Twin birth ... with a twist

Mackenzie Jordan, 8, explains how she remained calm when she had to help her mom, Melissa, give birth to twins Oct. 13 at their Sterling home.

Bundles of joy arrive, with assistance from 8-year-old BY CHRISTI WARREN cwarren@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5521

STERLING – Melissa Jordan has a high tolerance for pain. That’s why, at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, she says she didn’t think she was about to give birth until it was too late. Well, that and she was only 31 weeks along, making

her about 6 weeks early, by twins pregnancies’ standard. It all leads to how, at 2:04 a.m., she came to deliver the first of her twin daughters in her sweatpants, with no one at home but her two daughters. Melissa’s husband, Lamar, was at work at the time. Mackenzie Jordan, 8,
