‘Shocked’ by 102% rate hike Dixon couple’s premium leads local legislators to say issue should be looked at BY MATT MENCARINI mmencarini@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5529
DIXON – David and Cheryl Long bought long-term care insurance about 10 years ago to protect their assets in the event one or both had to move into a nursing home. The insurance was supposed to offset some of the cost of long-term care, be it in-home
care, assisted living, or a nursing home. “I had had friends that were in car accidents, a couple of them were single, not married and they ended up having to recover at a nursing home,” David Long said. “And it ended up coming out of their assets because insurance only covers 30 days in a nursing home.” On Sept. 10, the Longs, both

DIXON – Greg Wegner said Dixon High School could be a state-of-the-art school in its current location. “That building can be modernized and made into a worldclass school,” said Wegner, who spent 8 years on the Dixon school board in the 1990s. “You don’t have to build a new school to do all this.” A group of community members came together Wednesday to discuss the future of the Dixon School District and, in particular, Dixon High School. School officials have urged people to comment on the district’s long-term plan for school facilities. Superintendent Michael Juenger said school officials are gathering information, and nothing has been approved. QUESTION CONTINUED ON A4
