SERVING ROCK FALLS, STERLING AND THE SURROUNDING AREA SINCE 1854

ELECTION 2017 | TWIN CITIES

DIXON Towner Reed cleans the Ronald Reagan statue Thursday afternoon on the Dixon riverfront. Reed has a connection to the statue of the city’s most famous son; her father, Don Reed, designed it. The bronze, life-size work, titled “Begins the Trail,” features Reagan astride a palomino horse he once rode. It serves as the centerpiece of Heritage Crossing, an openair plaza that overlooks the Rock River. The statue is undergoing cleaning and routine maintenance.

Paperwork available for local hopefuls who want to run for office next year BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 815-625-3600, ext. 5570 @pam_eggemeier

While much attention is focused on the culmination of a presidential race next month, it’s time to get ready to run for local offices in next year’s election. Paperwork is available at city clerks’ offices for anyone who plans to run for elective office in April 2017 in Sterling and Rock Falls. The cities are on different filing schedules because they have different government structures; Sterling has a city manager form, while Rock Falls has a city administrator.

Inside One man, two legacies ... Norm Wymbs worked tirelessly to help preserve President Reagan’s legacy, and in the process, left one of his own.

Rock Falls In Rock Falls, the mayor’s office is among the races that will be on the ballot next spring. Incumbent Bill Wescott has picked up his paperwork. Other expiring terms are for city clerk, treasurer, and one alderman in each of the city’s four wards. Terms are coming to a close for George Logan Jr. in the 1st Ward, Brian Snow in the 2nd, and Jim Schuneman in the 3rd. An empty 4th Ward seat also will be up next spring.
