EASY TO CATCH HOMECOMING FEVER IN ROCK FALLS

Burke had surgery for tumor Mayor wants to return to full duties in November BY MATT MENCARINI mmencarini@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5529

DIXON – Mayor Jim Burke credits early detection and his yearly prostate cancer screenings for saving his life. Burke, 76, had surgery at the University of Wisconsin on Sept. 22 to remove his bladder after an invasive tumor was found. He is expected to make a full recovery, he said Monday afternoon at his home, and wants to be back to his mayoral duties full time by the first City Council meeting in November. Burke said Dixon residents deserved to know his health status and that he didn’t want rumors to spread or people to jump to conclusions about his health. The tumor and surgery have made him appreciate the smaller things in life, he said, but since the recovery won’t be much longer, it won’t effect whether he will seek re-election next year for a fifth term.
