Billie Jo Laidig, an employee with Open Sesame Children’s Learning Center, paints the hallway Thursday at the Lincoln Elementary School building in Dixon. The Dixon Public School District closed the school after the 2013-14 school year, and the center has rented the space since. Laidig pitched in with Wipfli employees for the firm’s 11th annual Community Day, during which the Dixon and Sterling offices close and workers tackle projects throughout the community. LANARK – A trend tailormade for small towns is hitting the region: A telepharmacy has opened in Lanark. Another telepharmacy, which had been slated to open elsewhere in Carroll County, in Milledgeville, apparently is off the table, however. In a telepharmacy, a pharmacist off site inspects and verifies prescriptions, which are dispensed by on-site technicians.
Lanark Pharmacy opened July 31 at 102 N. Broad St., in the former Shumway Building downtown. Kip and Karrie Sabinson, of Warren, own it and the Warren Pharmacy. Karrie is a registered pharmacist, and Kip is a pharmacy technician.

STERLING – Lawrence Park has been underutilized since the pool was closed 5 years ago, but a Sterling resident thinks he has a solution. Kurt Schwab will address the Sterling Park District board Monday to pitch his plan for bringing camping to the park. He said he has quite a few supporters, and he hopes to see as many of them as possible at the meeting. “I’ve talked to many people who canoe and kayak who are interested in using the park as a place to camp,” Schwab said. “They say it is getting crowded and noisy in some other area campgrounds.” Schwab said the Park District could start with tent camping, and possibly expand it to RV users later. He thinks the park could easily accommodate about 60 campers. “You could probably get 30 campers just in the back by the old bait shop,” Schwab said. Parks Director Larry Schuldt said the park district is certainly open to ideas for the park, but there are several challenges that ultimately come down to financial feasibility. Compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act would be a major concern. “I’m guessing this wouldn’t be primitive camping, so when we’re talking restrooms and showers, it becomes a big investment with ADA considerations,” Schuldt said.
