Pallets of bottled water are unloaded from a Wal-Mart truck Tuesday afternoon as Rock Falls residents flocked to the community building to get drinking water.

ROCK FALLS – The city’s water supply was back online at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, after several days of heavy rains overwhelmed the sewer system. The city water supply was turned off at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday because the lift station pumps were unable to keep up with the volume of water entering the system during a short period of time. Mayor Bill Wescott called a news conference for 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, where he announced the water would be on in about an hour. A boil hour was also issued at that time. City Water Department Superintendent Ted Padilla said he expects water sample results to come back sometime Thursday morning. The mayor apologized to residents during the televised news conference, and announced that the water would soon be back online. “The problems at the lift station have been resolved, and three of the four pumps are running,” Wescott said. “We’re slowly opening the flow of other lift stations, and closely monitoring the situation.” ROCK FALLS CONTINUED ON A5
