STERLING | TEAM UNDERWIRES

Group to ride into sunset Team organizing last events after raising $400K over 8 years BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570 @pam_eggemeier

STERLING – Sandi Ivey, president and cofounder of Team Underwires, is still amazed by the growth of the local organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Since the group started 8 years ago, it has raised $405,000 – all of which has stayed in the community. The primary beneficiaries have been the women’s cancer prevention program at CGH Health Foundation, KSB Hospital’s Cancer Care program, Home of Hope, and Hospice of the Rock River Valley. The group also distributes therapeutic comfort pillows to breast cancer patients. Despite all of its success that started with its Proud to Wear Pink! motorcycle ride, Ivey has announced that this will be the final year of the group’s fundraising efforts.

AMBOY – A century ago, 300 Lee County farmers each made a $10 investment in themselves. It was the initial start-up money for what eventually became the Lee County Farm Bureau.

Today, that investment would have looked more like $234 apiece – no small price. But, having spent the past 2 years researching the 100-year history of the organization, bureau manager Danelle Burrs argues that it has paid off. CELEBRATE CONTINUED ON A3
