For the past 15 years, the kids have arrived at school anticipating the dulcet tones of Carol Lubbs’ voice during morning announcements. First, the lunch menu. Then a moment of silence, followed by the pledge of allegiance. Last but not least, the Character Counts Pledge. Car show and swap meet Sunday

STERLING – The Sauk Valley Shifters’ Swap-O-Rama and the Sterling Main Street Car Show runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 110 S. Second Ave. There will be raffles, concessions, and music. DIXON – Dixon Park District’s first Outdoor Fun Day runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Vaile Park, West Third Street and Custer Avenue, and at Reynolds Field, 1900 W. Second St. Project GenNex, which aims to convert Veterans Memorial Pool into a skate park and youth center, will hold an open house at the pool, with concerts and tours throughout the day. The event will also feature vendors, a vehicle show and the district will showcase a sampling of its outdoor activities, including tennis, pickleball, and bird watching.
