DIXON – Though not hit as hard as other local taxing bodies to rectify a $168 million error made by the state, the Dixon Park District will lose about $28,000 in planned revenue. Hundreds of local taxing districts that received disbursements from a personal property tax replacement fund in 2014 and 2015 will have to foot the bill for the miscalculation made by the Illinois Department of Revenue, which the department announced last week. Just as district executive director Debra Carey received about $14,000 from the personal property tax replacement this month, it was quickly returned to sender. As discussed during the Dixon Park Board meeting Wednesday, the district will also have to alter its proposed Fiscal Year 2017 budget by reducing revenue another $14,000, totaling about 12 percent of their planned state revenues from the tax.

DIXON – A manufacturing site left empty with the departure of Anchor Coupling from Illinois has been sold. The Caterpillar subsidiary that makes hydraulic hose parts announced on June 6, 2014, its plans to consolidate the operations of its Dixon plant and two Sterling sites. The local plants were closed and manufacturing moved to the subsidiary’s corporate headquarters in Menominee, Michigan, costing the Sauk Valley 170 full-time jobs. Anchor Coupling added about 120 jobs at the Menominee manufacturing facility. The Dixon site at 1100 Anchor Road has been sold, but the transaction hasn’t yet been finalized. The nearly 35,000-square-foot building, built in 1969, is on about 21 acres of land.
