ROCK FALLS – The city and its engineering firm finalized a settlement agreement Tuesday, officially answering the question of who would pay for last year’s wastewater infrastructure failure. During the regular council meeting, Mayor Bill Wescott spoke to residents about what caused the emergency situBill ation that develWescott oped on Feb. 13, 2014. “Flooding at the main wastewater sewer lift station at 102 12th Avenue necessitated a citywide water shutoff to keep more water from entering the station,” Wescott said. The water would be off for 18 hours, but the tab for the failure would continue to escalate. Between the emergency measures, investigating the failure, and fixing the system, the total was $815,379.15. The settlement reached with Willett, Hofmann & Associates guarantees that the city won’t have to pay for any of it. CITY COUNCIL CONTINUED ON A2
