Jan.16,1836–18yearsafterIllinoiswasformed–theIllinoisLegislaturecreatedOgleCountyfromJo DaviesCounty.ThisincludedwhatisnowLee County.
ThemeetingtodecidethelocationofOregonas the OgleCounty Seat was held atthehomeofWilliamKellogginOregon. Othercommunitieswere alsointerested,thesebeingDixon,GrandDetour, Buffalo,Daysville,etc.OregonwaschosenJune20, 1837.
