Folksaidthehopeisthathalfthe projectcostwillbecoveredbyanOpen SpaceLandsAcquisitionandDevelopmentgrant.

“I’dliketoseetheexpansion.I’d liketoseetheuseofthelandalittlebit more,”CityCommissionerKurtWilsonsaid.“Weneedtodrawpeopleto theeastsideandIthinkthiswouldbe ahugedraw.Withthewalkingloop, thediscgolfandtheimprovementsto theballpark,itwouldbefantastic.”

FolksaidshemetwithGanymedes teamrepresentativespriortotheSept. 8communityinputsessiontoensure theplanswouldn’tnegativelyimpact theteam.

“Typically,whenyouhavecommunityinputmeetings,youneverknow whatyou’regoingtoget,butwe’re verypleasedwiththenumberofpeoplethathaveshown up,”shesaid.“I think,anytimeyoumakechanges, peoplearealittleleeryofwhatyou’re goingtodo.Butwe’vealwaysbeen respectfulof,likethebaseballfield we’renotgoingtomakethatimprovementuntilweknowthatthebaseball seasonisover.”

“Wewould potentially reducethe scope[ifwedon’tgetthegrant],butwe wouldalsolookatstagingitindifferentsectionstoreducethecostonthe districtallatonce,”shesaid.

Gary Staufferand Ray Gruber, bothof Oregon, look at preliminary drawings of proposed improvements andchanges to Oregon Park East duringa communityinput session Sept 8. The Oregon ParkDistrict is seekinga state grant to cover half of the$1.2 million project.

Wetalkedaboutnextmonth’smeetingatthemuseumonOct.8.Thepro gramwillbeontheMuenchFamily. I talkedaboutthedescendantsofMilton Snyderwhohadbeenintownandall theplacestheyhadvisited.

Jan.16,1836–18yearsafterIllinoiswasformed–theIllinoisLegislaturecreatedOgleCountyfromJo DaviesCounty.ThisincludedwhatisnowLee County.

ThemeetingtodecidethelocationofOregonas the OgleCounty Seat was held atthehomeofWilliamKellogginOregon. Othercommunitieswere alsointerested,thesebeingDixon,GrandDetour, Buffalo,Daysville,etc.OregonwaschosenJune20, 1837.
