Initiallyadayofcelebrationwas heldevery yearontheFourthofJuly andcalledOldSettlersDay.Thepicnic dinnerwaspackedforeachfamilyand theyatetheirlunch,listenedtospeakersandmusicandintheevening enjoyedfireworks.Thechildren playedgamesandtheadultsvisited withtheirfriends.

steelandthestoneusedfortheseatwasacapstone, believedtobeIndiana(Bedford)limestone,fromone ofthebalconiesoverthemainentrancesoftheNash SchoolwhichSteveBeneshandSonspartially demolishedin1984forwhatisnowtheNashRecreationCenter,ownedbytheOregonParkDistrict. “Iwashonoredtobeconsideredtotakepartin thisprojectandfeelitnecessary torecognizethe followingpeoplewhomadethispossible,”saidBowers.“OregonCityCouncilandCommissionerMelanieCozziforapprovalandlocationofthebench.Joe Arwoodhelpingwiththedesignandfortheshaping, cuttingand weldingofthemetalcomponents.Ron Rackow(Ron’sAutoBodyand Sandblasting)providedthematerialsandlabortosandblastandpaint thebench.
