Early voting, other aids boost turnout
Boosted by numerous registration and voting accommodations, turnout Tuesday was heavy but smooth in DeKalb County. With a majority of precincts reporting, unofficial returns indicated a turnout of almost 67 percent of registered voters. PAGE 2

Democrat Duckworth tops incumbent Kirk
Democrats seeking to gain control of the U.S. Senate got a boost Tuesday when two-term Illinois Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth defeated GOP incumbent Mark Kirk. Kirk said he called Duckworth to congratulate her and have a beer with her. PAGE 9
