When Karl and Jan Knock moved to Creston in 1989, they made it a priority to invest in Creston’s youth. For all those years of investing in and building up Creston’s youth, Karl and Jan have been selected for the Creston Community High School Hall of Fame class of 2017 as distinguished contributors. The Hall of Fame induction
ceremony and homecoming coronation takes place noon Friday in the CCHS auditorium. “I’m very deeply appreciative of the recognition,” Jan said. “We have committed ourselves to working with youth in Creston and helping to provide opportunities for youth, and I hope in doing so, young people would consider Creston a great place to grow up and consider coming back after going to college. We appreciate the recognition. We hope in some small way,
we might help other people consider making that kind of investment, also.” “I think there are an awful lot of people in the community who have given an awful lot over the years, specifically for the kids,” Karl said. “I feel humbled and undeserving of the award.” Karl, whose family owned Iowa State Savings Bank for 77 years, retired as chief executive officer of ISSB in February after spending 27 years with the bank. Jan is also retired
from the bank after working 13 years as director of marketing. They are both still involved with Iowa State Savings Bank in retirement, serving on the bank’s board of directors. Having grown up in Creston, Karl is passionate about helping the community grow and prosper. “I graduated from Creston High School in 1968. Republicans say the new laws give local governments more budget flexibility and ensure that unions are held accountable to all their members. Labor leaders say the new laws are designed to reduce the number of unions and weaken their influence. All of Iowa’s 1,200 public bargaining units will face recertification elections.
