A fundraising campaign to update the Creston Community High School auditorium recently began. The campaign, spearheaded by CCHS Speech and Drama Instructor Laura Granger, has already secured a large chunk of money through grants. But, more funds are needed to complete the fundraising goal and actually receive a Dekko matching grant. Creston Community School District received a $15,000 grant from the South Central Iowa Community Foundation and a $30,000 constructing or remodeling a building grant from Dekko Foundation. “Now it’s starting to kick off some more and now we have more of a deadline, which is why we’re trying to spearh e a d some do- Granger

with the theatre department doing most of the work toward funding the project. With the school district’s budget tightening over the past several years, administrators didn’t think they could set aside more money for the auditorium upgrades. “We’ve done as much as

we can at this point, and now we need the community’s help to make this a reality,” Granger said.

6th Iowa Democrat joins race for US House seat held by Young WEST DES MOINES (AP) — The man who ran U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign in Iowa is joining the Democratic nomination race for David Young’s U.S. House seat. Pete D’Alessandro says progressive agendas need to be at the forefront during the 2018 elections if Democrats hope to make any gains in Congress. He envisions a campaign that

trumpets a new plan for Iowans and Americans rather than just opposing President Donald Trump. He told The Des Moines Register : “We have to be offering a vision.” D’Alessandro served as political director for Gov. Chet Culver before joining Sanders’ campaign in 2016 and is the sixth Democrat to announce a run in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Des Moines.
